Walls out for Fall Semester and Hord to Transfer

Plenty of speculation in Pittsburgh, that Walls would like to transfer to play for the Panthers.

Really, I find that humourous since Darrin is coming back to South Bend next week to enroll at Holy Cross College for the semester.

I have been high on Walls since he was being recruited. He is one of my favorite players on this years team. I don't usually hold grudges, but I would be dissapointed to see him give up on Notre Dame. He is his own person though and he can decide for himself. I just know that if he sticks with Notre Dame he will come back stronger than ever. I hope a rumor of him transferrring anywhere is untrue!!!! Walls, you are wanted at Notre Dame!

Likely because CW wouldn't release him from his scholarship. Doesn't change what Darrin's true wishes might be. It wouldn't surprise me that he wants to transfer to Pitt, since it is his home town. But, he may not be able to. As with all rumors...who knows?

Folks,
Maybe you should read the comments made by Rashon McNeil this week regarding Walls. He states how he and Walls are best of friends and he speaks to him almost every day. In those conversations, Walls told him how he cannot wait to come back to ND for next season. I for one believe he will be back, especially since 2009 will be the year ND returns to a BCS level bowl, and he wants to be part of that. I understand Pitt is his home town, but there is major uncertainty there about Wanny's coaching future. If they struggle this season, he will be OUT. That means a transfer into the unknown for Walls. Darrin, we love you in South Bend and look forward to your speedy return.

Can anybody shed some light on this rumor?

i think you just did; you hit on the key word. first, if the rumors/speculation is coming from pittsburg, it lacks reliability. that would be like us starting rumors about a great player transfering to ND when no one inside the leaving program is aware of it.

second, you're still dealing with rumors/speculation. even if true, let's try not to get worked up over things unconfirmed.

i thought Walls is an Architecture major and has to study abroad during his junior season. What ever the answer i hope Walls does come back to the team next year because Mcneil and Gray will have caught up to him in experience. We would have some great CB's.

The word on the street is that his dad visited Pitt, but that's all. From everything we can tell, he will be back in 2009.

The key here is CW would not release his scholarship to let him play for Pittsburg!! We play them in 2009 & 2010. I would however not be surprised if he transfered to a school that is easier to make the grades!!!

as far as i can tell, he wasn't having a problem making grades. i think he was one of those over 3.0gpa, but i don't recall specifically.

So does anyone know what really happened with Walls if it's too sensitive, post it in the TDJ Forum.

McNeil WAS an architect major, but he dropped out of that during his freshman year. Walls' problem is not with grades. I would be suprised if he transferred, especially to Pitt. We have enough depth at corner that I think losing Walls will hurt less than initially expected.

The original rumor was academics, but if it's not that then what is it??? I know I'm not the only one asking this. If it's true what they're saying, about Walls coming back next year, then what is putting him out for this year? Homesickness? Trouble at home? Peronal issues? I'm confused. Only other reasoning I can come up with is a transfer. Whatever it is, I hope he makes the right decision for himself.

Walls has the potential to be a GREAT lock down corner and go in at least the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft! I am confused at how much a lot of people are down playing this loss. CB is like QB...it is all about experience and getting use to the game speed. Wall's loss is going to hurt BAD!!!! I am just hoping are corners get some good experience those first couple of games before they have to face a good passing attack!

All I can say on this matter is that it, indeed, is an academic issue. Darrin's GPA is well above the 2.0, so it is not a Patrick Kuntz problem. However, there was a problem with a summer class. Due to FERPA Laws, I cannot divulge more information on Darrin's situation.

Just be rest assured that Walls is missing his team and Notre Dame. The last thing that I heard on Darrin is that he is going to enroll at Holy Cross College, across the street from ND, and take classes during the fall semester. Then he'll re-apply for readmission into ND.

Thanks NDGreenEnvy. you sound like your know what you are talking about. I respect Darrin's privacy. I was just concerned about the real reson for his departure. Best of luck to him.

You mean Darrin, right? Deion Walker, the FR WR, is doing well.

Thankfully we can put all the Walls to Pitt rumors in the trash heap where they belong.

Walls' dad recently gave an interview wherein he explained that he alone was at a Pitt practice a short time back. The reason he was in attendance is because of his personal aspirations to get into coaching football. He knows the Pitt coaching staff, he lives very close, so he goes to the practices to get coaching tips.

Walls Sr. has been a lifelong ND fan and wouldn't allow Darrin to transfer anywhere; he wants Darrin to get his degree from ND.

I'm glad we can let the rumors rest. Darrin Walls will be an All-American candidate next year and have another year of eligibility the following year. ND's corner situation is looking good. Go Irish!

Thank You Mr. Walls. I say that this should close the issue on this subject. All that is left to say is, Good Luck Darrin. You are part of the Irish Family and we look forward to your return. 2009 redemption for you.

Fantastic news. He was quickly becoming my favorite player last year, and it killed me when I heard that he wasn't coming back (to play this year). But am I the only one who read the article and found it odd that there still wasn't a reason given for him not playing this semester? Did I miss something? At least he's back, and our D-backfield is going to be LOADED next year...

McNeil and Gray playing this season and then Walls coming back will give us one of the nation's best secondaries in 2009.

Don't worry, I know all the rumors have been put to rest... I have seen no reports of Darrin attending any of the fall camp/two-a-day practices. Can anyone confirm this? I'm sure his schedule doesn't allow for much free time, but I am very surprised not to hear that he has attended any practices for support?
