I have had this kid at the top of my list for about two months now, I really hope he goes to ND but UT and the Gators are going to be almost impossible on this guy.

made his top ten

Marlon Brown's top ten list reads like a who's who of college football and it's no accident. "I care about football history and I care about tradition," Brown said. "I want a school that is known for winning." Besides tradition, Brown says the most important decision factor is going to be the coaches. "I just want to play for great coaches. I don't care about their coaching style. For me..."

Marlon Brown, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound five-star wide receiver from Harding High School in Memphis, Tenn., continues to deny a favorite from among approximately 35 scholarship offers.

"At the beginning of August I'll narrow it down to five or six schools," Brown said. "I don't think I'll commit until Signing Day though. I really want to take my time and get a good feeling for all of these schools."

Although he denies a leader, Brown does have a top 10 list and this is the order in which he stated his choices…USC, UCLA, Stanford, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida.

It's all window dressing until he makes a visit. He's made two visits to the west coast, zero to South Bend despite being just a few hours away.

Seems like he'll head to the west coast if he doesn't stay at home in Tenn.

The commitment of Marlon Brown would likely make us the 2nd or 3thd best recruiting class in the country. More importantly, he would increase our nat'l championship hopes exponentially. Go Irish

No way he commits. Hypothetically if he did, he would not boost us that much in the team rankings since we will not only be taking a smaller class, but a class that includes both a kicker and a punter, whom will most likely not get above a 2 star rating.

screw stars, we needed two good kickers. and we need a great wr. so sign him up

I agree! Too many people get totally wrapped up in how many stars these recruits have. The stars are only a "indicator" in the eyes of some "expert" on how they've performed at the h.s. level and the POTENTIAL they may bring to the college level.

Several teams wupped up on our beloved Irish last year that their total players star-rating coming out of h.s. wouldn't amount to hardely anything. If it's totally about star-ratings, U$C should have won the NC the past 4 or so years!

i agree to an extent in that its not all about star rating, coaching plays a huge part in how players end up performing. however, i dont think last years team was a very good model to judge the effectivness of star ratings, since many of our losses had more to do with the age and experience of our players than anything else. when you look at the recruiting rankings in any given year, they are usually a very good indicator of who will be contending for the national title three or four years down the road. in 2005 for instance, texas won the national title with the number one ranked senior class. florida's senior class in 2006 was ranked number two coming out of highschool. this years senior class at LSU were ranked number two as well. point being, while recruiting rankings may be wrong on certain players, they are usually very accurate when evaluating which teams are bringing in the most talent for the future.

So since we had the number 2 class last year does that mean we will have a NC in four years??? If not by then I hope so!

Signing Brown, Shaq or both, will help us sign a great QB next year.... every top QB will check out his potential receiving corps... next great QB will have two years post Dayne Crist
career...

He included ND in a top 10 list last week, and Rivals is now reporting that he has a top 6. Anybody know if we're included in that? I would be pleasantly surprised.

No we aren't. He is overrated big-time though so i'm not fretting it.

Not to take anything away from this young man, but his team plays in the weakest classification in the state of Tennessee. Just sayin'

No big deal losing out on this kid.... i definately want shaq more than this guy, have for some time. Also, i think Tyler Eifert might have the ability to play hybrid TE/Wr type. 09 is really a less talented class than the 08 and 10 classes, and we are in it with alot of the big time player such as jenkins, teo, shaq, lalota, etc, so i really dont think we need to worry. and not to mention we have already signed some big players in Watt, Wood, Banks and others. i think we end up with a smaller class of less than 20, but good players will be what we get.

Good point, one reason I can't wait to see how players like Marlon and Cierre Wood fare at the AAA game. People had doubts about Mike Floyd because of the MN competition and he proved himself big time at the game

I think Cierre took a huge step in my book when he outperformed Bryce Brown at the FBU camp a few weeks ago.

Apparently he didn't outperform Bryce Brown judging by the new Rivals 100

also Marlon Brown dropped from his 5-star status, something that was long overdue

yes but rivals has been a below average site on recruiting.....like last year when they moved omar to a five star after he got crushed by cave in the Under Armour game. and cave didnt even move into the top 100..... i think cierre will be a bit better than bryce IMO.
