Chris picked up an official offer from ND yesterday while Charlie Weis and Bill Lewis were in town.

I like this kid. He plays very strong at the point of attack, has a good body frame, penetrates well and does a good job in pursuit on the backside of the play. This, IMHO, is what you look for in a 3-4 DE.

I agree he's got that mentality about him that he just wants to run through you. We haven't had one of these in a long time.

The coaching staff has really upped their contact with Bonds. In response, he scheduled an official visit to the Michigan game (Sept 13).

This is pure speculation. Chris Bonds was busy trying to decide with his father what schools he would visit during the spring and summer until he visited USC. Then he decided he was not going to take visits, but was going to concentrate on his senior season. USC is suppose to have four silent commits. Given the unusual termination of possible campus visits after the USC visit, doesn't it appear that Chris has verballed to USC? Is it only I who feel that his behavior is unusual for a recruit without a home? From his interviews he always struck me as a USC type football player rather than an ND type. I think he is a USC silent commit.

I haven't read anything about him being a possible silent commit to Southern Cal, but anything is possible.

If he were a silent commit, then it doesn't say much about his commitment if he ends up taking all the officials during the season. To have a chance, ND will need to make sure he visits for the Michigan game and get a good bit of recruiting help from Gary Gray, his former teammate.

The nice thing about this year is that schools like Texas, OSU and USC are all filling up quickly. So that's going to create some space issues for kids who want to wait until after the season, the all-star games or even NSD.

So even if USC is in the lead, him waiting may put him on the outside without an actionable offer.

Which USC are you referring to ... U of So. Carolina OR U of So. California?

I stand corrected if I am wrong. I have heard nothing about Chris Bonds taking visits anywhere this Fall.

SoCal, have you heard who the four silents are for SC? Maybe I can get excited about Chris Bonds. SC sells the Southern California party life and prep for the NFL well.

I am referring to University of Southern California. I do hope that I am wrong.

The reason I ask is because he's from So. Carolina and schools of interested listed here are:
Schools of Interest:
Auburn
Florida
S.Carolina
Miami
Tennessee
Michigan
Notre Dame

... So. Cal. not on this list.

I don't know whether he has them scheduled. last i read he said he was going to take his officials during the fall.

no, i don't have any idea who that might be or whether they have four.

i wouldn't get excited about Bonds. if he visits, then it opens him up as a possiblity. but until then it may just be typical lip-service that seems to happen so often in recruiting these days.

early on he was high on South Carolina. Then he visited Southern Cal (I think) and became enamored with them. i believe he said if he leaves the state it's most likely Southern Cal and the only team he would consider in state would be SoCarolina. i could be mistaken though.

also, if you're going off the schools of interest listed here, those are rarely updates; it's just too hard to stay on top of that. if you're going off schools of interest in a recruiting site profile, those are updated slightly more frequently than we update here.

He has us in his top seven.

Bonds enjoys visit with UT's Brooks : Football Recruiting : GoVolsXtra.com

Bonds said he’s considering seven schools: UT, South Carolina, Alabama, Southern Cal, Michigan, Notre Dame and Miami.

Bonds said he hopes to trim his list soon, something he’s already attempted.

“Every time I try I always find things about a school I trimmed that I like,” he said. “I’m stuck at seven now.

Back in March he said he'd probably give us an official.

PalmettoSports.com | South Carolina Recruiting | Phil Kornblut | GoUpstate.com

DE Chris Bonds (6-4 270) of Richland Northeast says he probably will take his five official visits this fall to Michigan, Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Alabama and Miami. "I've already visited South Carolina's campus and I'm using the official visits to go to places I normally wouldn't visit,"

I think we have a shot w the official visit, if he sticks w his stated plan. What I have noticed w many recruits over the last 2 recruiting cycles is how time changes their thoughts.

What I mean is, it is just as important when a recruit said something as what he says about a school. I have read several times over several recruits that they were going to do one thing because someone is referring to a statement made in the spring that is OBE.

Alright, according to Rivals video, free btw, his top six are (he listed in this order, dont think too much of it) UM, ND, Southern Cal, South Carolina, UT, and Bama. Has visited all of them except UM and ND.

Hopefully he feels the same way that fellow SC native Gary Gray felt once he visited. Dont have a strong feeling that we get this kid, but think there is always a shot if charlie and company can just get him here.

Bonds informed CW that he is visiting for the Michigan game on Sept 13. That will be one heck of a recruiting weekend, with many current commits, current 2009 offerees, and 2010 prospects coming in for the game.

Definitely Socal, that Michigan game is very important in more ways than one. I think CW is banking on the Irish to really make the Wolverines look bad and impress the recruits. This tells me CW and staff have a lot of confidence they will beat Michigan and show potential recruits that ND is back for good.

yea, i hope we dont play like last week...at least in the red zone i hope we can actually frigging score. and i really hope the visit goes amazing for bonds. I would really hate it if we had to go to plan B type of players.

Chris visited for the Michigan game with his mom and had great things to say about the visit. But it was his mother's lack of anything to say that sounds even better. Apparently she found nothing negative to say about the school, that she would have no worries that Chris would be taken care of.

It helps that Chris' host was former teammate Gary Gray, who had an interception during the game.
