I think "interesting" would be the right word. A very interesting hire.

I don't know that much about him other than he did some great things for the city of Indianapolis. Can anybody shed some light?

I don't know. I think it's pretty sharp.

They were smart in not going for someone famous like Digger or Holtz. That would have been disasterous.

Faceless attourney with big rolodex. That's what we needed.

Was listening to the press conference and came away very impressed with Swarbrick. Sounds like a guy who gets Notre Dame and who has the potential to assert strong leadership in his position. Time will tell how much autonomy he has as AD but someone has pointed out before that Swarbrick was in the same graduating class as Fr. Jenkins and Fr. Scully. Perhaps Fr. J has found someone he could trust with the reigns of the athletics department.

Not only can they trust him, he has contacts. That's crucial. Not only do you have to understand sports and how sports administration works, but you need to be able to work effectively across multiple organizations and schools. He clearly knows the NCAA well, so that's VERY important.

"I have my theories, as Father suggested, about what that change may entail and where the industry is headed. But I think it will be enormous. I think there's much about this industry you won't recognize in 10 years. We must be at the forefront of that. We must participate in leading that change. Notre Dame cannot have that dictated to it. And I love the challenge of accepting the responsibility for trying, with the other members of the athletic team, staff, coaches, student athletes, to be part of shaping that future."

After a quote like that, how could you not like the guy ?
