Does he really want to be here or is he with us because Ohio St pulled his offer, just wondering if anyone knows first hand?

Many believe that Ohio State pulled his offer when he announced to the staff that he would be committing to Notre Dame. The first word of his commitment to the Irish was reported around the same time Ohio State offered Sam Longo and pulled Watt's offer. FWIW, it sounds like Watt's commitment to us predates Ohio State's decision.

Actually Watt came out and said OSU never pulled his offer. Which i think is important because ND was not a fall-back decision; he chose ND with all the options on the table.

no problem. i thought there was enough info out there to conclude likewise before he announced. i was glad he cleared that up.

Chris Watt had many offers on the table, which should be no surprise since he is rated as one of the finest pure offensive linemen in the nation. Watt figures to get his first look for the Irish at guard.

In the end of the process for Watt, the Irish simply offered too much for him to refuse their offer.

“There were so many things to like about Notre Dame. They just offered the best overall package from the obvious academic life to the football life. They are going to be a lot better thus year,” Watt said from his home.

“I still have an offer on the table from Ohio State. I just chose Notre Dame because I liked them the best. I have nothing but respect for Ohio State and their coaching staff, but this had nothing to do with Ohio State and my standing with them. I still had a seat on the bus,” he said.

Jason's explanation makes good sense. There are only a couple of reasons (trouble with law, grades, lack of interest) why any school, in this case Ohio St. would pull an offer extended to a kid rated so highly (#2)

Although, it can be painful for us rabid fans to wait for announcements, I tend to believe that some kids are making their decisions privately, then "seeing how it feels after waking up in the morning". Keeping a decision rather silent for a short period seems intelligent and mature to me.

Welcome to ND Chris!

the chicago area is our "backyard" when it comes to recruiting. Watt is the number one player in illinois, and landing him keeps the chicago pipeline in great shape.

I can say I am very happy he is on board. He's SO needed!!!

It's nice to see that he chose us over OSU...those are two great choices to have and it's great to see he liked ND for being ND.

Yup, ND is plucking the best players out of Chicago and Illinois. A great pipeline. NJ can be put in there as well. Watt is an awesome pickup!

Personally, I think this guy and Trevor Robinson on the same team is simply unfair, it will definitely devalue our NC's the next 3 years for having this much talent on the O-line

Alright I think it is safe to put this out there now. Alot of rumors have been out there so I emailed my friend the other night and he Watt is Irish! I assumed it would come out with all the smoke, but it hasn't. So I emailed him again a bit ago and he said that Watt called the staff a couple of days ago to let them know OSU basicly pulled the schollie from him. Every one in the program instantly assumed that he was Irish. He has taken a couple of days to think things over and today was back in touch with the staff. and...

I guess we know why there was a delay. He did infact call Ianello to commit as I reported, but couldn't get ahold of Weis(to make it official) for another couple of days since he was on vacation.

With this comment irishmarine, does this mean we hold you accountable for LaLota's commitment?:)
