Sorry to switch gears from all of the football talk, but Gary Parrish, from CBS, wrote his ridiculously early top 25 for next year's basketball season and he has the Irish ranked #5.

Big East looks like it is going to be extremely tough again with Louisville ranked #2, UCONN #3, ND #5, Pitt #8, Marquette #14, G-Town #15, Nova #16 and Syracuse and West Virginia just out of the top 25.

I really can't wait for football season, but basketball season will be fun next year too!!!

Here's the article:

Ridiculously early preseason Top 25 (and one): Heels, Cards sit 1-2 - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com Live Scores, Standings, Stats

That is very early. I would like to see my Blue Devils dominate this year, but don't loose sleep over anyone but ND football.

???????????Notre Dame #5????????????????? HUH? I wouldnt rate us THAT high. I was thinking more in the range of #15-#17. Thats a bit too high. We will be good I think but not THAT good. The Big East is way too tough a conference but I guess we shall see. I would rather we not be ranked period. I love flying under the radar just like in football.

The only knock against ND is big game winning. I don't know too much about their roster but if I could remember a defensive big guy was needed. I may be wrong and thinking of a different team. But other than that ND will be very good. Everyone comes back I believe. #5-#10 type of a ranking is good for them. UConn is ranked too high IMO. They haven't proved anything in the last 3 years except that they choke in big games...

Plus UCONN don't have a go to player still...

no offense dude, but you picked us to lose like every game in the sportsbook last year lol. ND is that good. I fully expect a run to the Elite 8 and if they dont, somethings wrong with the talent they got

Every ranking that I've seen has them ranked between #4 and #10. The guy who does Bracketology already predicted them as a #2 seed. We typically play a fairly weak non-conference schedule and tend to lose a game or two in it that we should win, so it would be nice for us to go undefeated in it for once and be ranked in the top 5 by the time conference play rolls around. Depending on other teams non-conference games, we could even be ranked #1 by then.

I know there are alot of pessimists out there. NDOM, Im talking to you my man. I think 5 is a little high too. HOWEVER, everyone has us that high. Andy Katz has us at #4, and Rivals has us at #5. And Joe Lunardi has us a #2 seed. So maybe it isnt that far fetched. My personal opinion, I think we'll be around 10, and there is no reason that we cant make a run to the elite 8, and be a strong contender to win the big east. But we shall see........Regardless it should be fun! Also, it is difficult to project because the schedule isnt out yet. Talk about a weak non conference schedule all you want, but I do hear there is a road trip to UCLA in there. We'll see......

Just saw an article about the non-conference schedule being much tougher than usual. Games against UCLA and OSU, and the Maui Invitational among others.

"We" meaning ND right? Wasn't a believer. This year I am more so than last year. I believe in them more than I do UConn...

i forgot about the maui invitational. the field is loaded too. Add UCLA and possibly OSU to that and we will have a very tough non conference slate

North Carolina is in it. If we play and beat them, you can solidify us as the possible number one team in the country after the tournament if we win the whole thing too. There is no way we go undefeated in the Big East, it is way to tough unlike Memphis last year or the ACC in previous years.

They do have a tough schedule this year which should help them get ready for the tourney. I'll try and find the link and post.

#9 in the AP as well, and the Irish are playing their first exhibition tonight, although it will not count for their record.
