ya know, ive never really liked hockey or even cared enough to sit down and watch a game.....but all be damned if this series hasnt gotten me on the couch every game to watch! For some reason, I'm loving the underdog mentality of the Penguins....just thought I would share that, Im a newly created hockey fan!

underdog mentality of the PENGUINS? they are nothing but cocky young kids that whine when things don't go their way, have to disagree... everyone has written off Detroit from the start of the lockout until now as being too old, too many europeans, etc... they are the underdogs in my book

the wings are the best team in hockey and europeans are better than americans at hockey too. how can they be underdogs? yes the penguins are a young hotheaded team in some cases but every young team is hot headed at points. detroit has the knowledge and experience of championship hockey pitt has a couple of veterans but mostly young guys. im not a fan of either team but its been an interesting match up. and hopefully brings some fans back to hockey

All the experts picked San Jose or Anaheim to win the cup, am I right?

After the lockout everyone said Detroit would fall apart because they couldn't buy a team anymore, am I correct?

The knock on Europeans is they they do not have the grit and toughness as the Canadian counterparts, am I correct?

Osgood is on the brink of an amazing postseason yet Don Cherry won't consider him a good goalie, what is up with that?

Det is favored in this series, but overall Detroit has been the underdog story the past couple seasons and finally everything is clicking.

true the canucks seem to be a little "harder" but the skill the europeans ahve is second to none. your goalie is playing great. even that score to tie it wasnt his fault i mean it was a great heads up play by the penguins to stay after the puck. and don cherry are you serious? have you seen how the man dresses i wouldnt put too much stock in some of the things he says. granted he knows his hockey but there are always people who say dumb things. the wings goalie is playing well as is the detroit defense until late in the games when sometimes they look a little tired.

All I am saying is most people picked the Penguins to win the cup when the finals started, the only ESPN guy otherwise was EJ. Hradek, who chose the wings in 6

Actually I only saw one guy pick the Pens among the "experts" but whatever, enjoy it

games 1 and 2 sucked (from a pens fan point of view) but games 3-6 were all great, including a classic game 5. all one goal games. i think the nhl got its money's worth.....i was fortunate enough to go to game 3, a pens win and my first cup finals game ever, and despite losing the series, it was something i'll never forget. WWB, thoughts on a rematch next year?

My thoughts are as follows... Pens will definitely be a stronger team next year due to this experience and will be in the Cup finals for sure, but they need to re-sign somewhere around 11 free agents (very tough, not a lot of money to go around).

Detroit as always will have a good team but the road to the cup this year I thougth was much easier than if we would've had to play Anaheim or San Jose (thank you Dallas), and our team is getting older.

I say I like the chances of a Det/Pens re-match, but Pens have more of a chance of making it to the finals again than the Red Wings do.

the pens do have alot of free agents, but the core of the team will be back. crosby is signed for the long term, they will more than likely get malkin and staal a contract extension, they will resign fleury, sykora is back. D looks good with gonchar, gill, letang, whitney, and sydor all coming back. the question lies with Hossa. rumors are we are going to make a strong run at him with the hope he will take less money from us for more years and the chance to play along side crosby for the remainder of his career. but if we do that, we will probably say goodbye to malone and orpik. so its a pick your poison. we wont be able to sign everyone but there is more money to go around than most think. as far as detroit goes, yes they are aging but i dont think the window is shut yet. i still think they have a few good years left with the core that they have.

plus if you can build your team around zetterberg and datsyuk you will always be able to compete

that is exactly what Detroit has done, they gambled especially with Datsyuk not producing in prior years at this time, but it definitely worked.

Lidstrom has 2-3 more years, other than that we have a lot of youth (I think Helm is going to suprise a lot, he is SO fast). I say with the core we have we are looking at 3-4 more years, and Detroit has always been good at rebuilding so I can't wait to see our young talent play more in the next couple years as well.

Yeah baby. Wings won it. Congradulations to the Pens though. They had a helluva run and they could have just laid down and died but they didnt. They ALMOST forced a game 7. They will be a formidable opponent for years to come. I hope this is a start of a great rivalry.

I second that NDOM, it would be amazing to watch these two teams climb back to the finals next year, we might actually get the opportunity to see a Fleury vs. Osgood fight, that would be amazing.

I love the pictures of Roy just drenched in his own blood, just gushing down his face.... fast forward 10 years, he becomes a thug coach that tells his own son to go beat up the other goalie, nevermind that the other goalie doesn't even want to fight him.
