Every year I keep hoping that I will turn on espn and find that Mark May is gone, yet he is still there. Year after year.

he obviously is a notre dame hater. but he played well in college was a part of the best offensive line in history in the nfl. they (espn)hates notre dame too so what do you really expect from a company that hates us but to employ someone who hates us. just be happy in a year or two that they wont be able to say a damn thing b/c we will be national champions.

In my years of disliking mark may, i think ESPN keeps him around to see the day when Notre Dame makes a run at the National Championship and has a badass team so he can eat shit. Just a personal opinion.

I can totally understand the hatred people feel against espn, however espn is never really "hates" any team. What they do is find the majority hatred or love for the premier teams and take that stance within their shows. I would assume Notre Dame's fan base is one of the largest across the country, however the amount of fans who dislike Notre Dame is probably high as well. So the best way to get both to watch is show a somewhat bias against Notre Dame to get the majority to like the content but also it will infuriate us enough to watch just out of spite. Similar to how they portray the Red Sox/Yankees.

I honestly don't think ESPN as a whole hates Notre Dame. Would they hire so many ex-Golden Domers if they hated them? It is obvious Mark May does, but that is why they keep people like him and Holtz on there and in a show together. It is entertaining to watch them catfight and say things that get people riled up. Living in the SEC, I have heard whining for years how ESPN hates the SEC. Give me a break. Next year I'll probably hear Ant80 say they hate the Big 10 )

I've actually heard from a few Domers who have actually met May that he isn't that bad of a guy and isn't that big of a hater. In fact, most of it comes from his obligation to appease the anti-ND crowd just as Lou Holtz appeases us. To prove this point, one Domer went as far as lending him a Notre Dame tie which May allegedly wore a few times on air.

I really cannot wait until he says how Michigan will kill us then we drill them by 21. He is the Ying to Lou's Yang. Holtz did have us in the NT game last year.

holtz is a loyal nder. he looks at it as half full instead of half empty. last year we were just a dry cup though :(

You guys just don't get it. ESPN doesn't like or dislike ANYONE. They just hype the conferences that have contracts with them, and play down the rest. Why do you think ESPN was the only recruiting service that had Miami at #1 last year?

I also don't like Mark May. Being an Irish fan, a lot of the reasons are obvious, but what really bothers me is the attitude he sometimes takes towards Holtz. There are times when he seems condescending, sarcastic and borderline mean. Maybe the whole thing is supposed to be schtick, but I don't think it's particularly respectful and makes him a jerk in my eyes.

He very well may be a nice guy in real life, up close and personal, but as far as on the air, I'm real comfortable in all the bad words I hurl at the screen whenever he comes on.

:)

I don't know if ESPN likes or dislikes ND but I was flipping through the channels and turned on ESPN Classic to maybe catch the Irish. I did alright, ESPN was showing the FSU butt kicking they gave us at South Bend. Now why in the world would they show that game as a classic. That game sucked, I wouldn't expect ND on classic after they cruised to a victory like that.
