The reason I asked is because Illinois fans on rivals seems awfully confident he will be in Champaign come the fall of 2009.

I might be mistaken, but isn't that one of the least used messageboards known to man? They may have threads from Sept. still on the first page.

Yeah, and just how many Illini fans really have a grasp as to what is really going on inside the animal known as recruiting?

Another one i think we need, as well as many more of them (OL)....still the only thing that worrys me about NDs chances. We need quality offensive and defensive linemen competeing against each other every day in practice to make us competitive on gameday... we have the skill positions down, but we need to get some High Profile OL. we got a few last year in Cave, Clelland, and definately in Robinson. Only got one really good recruit the year b4 in Romine, though Nuss and the Flordia guy could be debated. OSU and USC keep pulling in the big guys, we need to keep up and due the same.

Sorry I missed you post super fan. I think we have a realistic chance of getting him. He plays his cards well so it's tough to get a read. I do think he got talked up a bit as being a ND lean. For some reason( and i'm sure I'm going to get burned at the stake for this) I not so sure that he pans out in college. I think his work ethic is suspect and that will really be put to the test in college. Would I want him on the team to prove me wrong absolutely. Do I think he will be a top 75 prospect when this recruiting cycle is over no.

Where did you hear the info on his work ethic?

It's just my opinion...I formed it from a combination of things.

In his film he isn't plain nasty. His highlight film is of him dominating guys that are much smaller than him and he even gives up on a few plays. Most recruit videos will only show their best plays and to give up on a highlight vid makes me scratch my head.

He looks like he could improve his physique quite a bit with hard work. Looks nothing like Xavior Nixon who is shredded.

In his interviews he seems to be in need of attention all the time(T Pyror syndrome).

Lastly alot of other recruits are going to be at camps this summer trying to improve their rankings, but not Shrive he's taking the summer off.

That one is not even close. The kid is a high quality, upstanding kid. He's definatley NOT a me first kid.

Also, I'm sure ND's coaches saw all of his film. They wouldn't offer him a scholarship if he was the kind of kid who would often "give up" on plays.

I wouldn't think so either, but from ND=NC's statements, I'm not too sure about the kid.

I've actually heard some of the same things as ND=NC. Now they were from Penn State fans, but Penn State fans that I respect. He is not one of the recruits I am excited about, I will put it that way.

So these services just throw 4 and 5 stars out to kids like candy and schools just offer scholarships the same way to kids who have no shot at playing?

I heard Shrive has decided to take the summer off to work in the warehouse at the Scranton offices of Dunder Mifflin.

This is just a rumor...can somebody confirm?

I don't know how you could take a stance on the other side without being there. It's an opinion I'm not an expert and like I said I hope i'm wrong.

I know kids who played with him and against him as well as people who have seen him play weekly. I've only heard good things about him both on the field and in the gym. Thats why I have the opinion I do.

I'm gonna trust Charlie and Co. for now. They must have seen something they like. The star system as we all know is objective. Its primary function is to set recruitniks' expectations of what a kid is gonna do in college. In that way it sets them up to be either an overachiever or an underachiever b/c their whole career they will be compared to the expectations arbitrarily placed on them before they stepped foot on campus.

Shrive, with his high rating, has been set up to be an underachiever on the college level. IMO his situation is very similar to that of Sam Young. Both are massive young men that obviously dominated on the high school level b/c of their size. Hopefully if Shrive finds himself in blue and gold he will have time to develop rather than be thrown into the fire like Young. I think Charlie sees something in this young man. Maybe he shouldn't be rated as highly as he is, but I'll wait til his career is over to decide his star power. For now i'll just be happy if this man child commits to ND. GO IRISH!

I saw the kid play almost every week last year, and I was extremely impressed with his style of play. He plays the game like it should be played (all out on every play). I dont know why these haters on here questioned the kids ability.

The only criticism that anyone can give about shrive is that his pass blocking isnt elite, but he has a lot of time to fine tune that.

I can't wait to see Shrive play for ND!

Shrive and Young are nothing alike. Young was a 5* and the number 3 player in the country.

First of all Scranton before you call people haters READ THE WHOLE THREAD! I think he is a 4* player and I said that. Do you think because your from Scranton you may be a little biased? He is not a 5* player. He's a good player that would really benefit from hitting the camps this summer.
