Rutgers killed a tentative, long-term agreement Thursday to play Notre Dame in football. 'Rutgers entered discussions about a possible long-term series with Notre Dame but at the end of the day, the schools could not agree about the site of the games,' Rutgers athletic director Bob Mulcahy said in a statement. The teams were to play in 2010 through 2016, with the first two games to be played in South Bend, Ind., and the teams alternating home games the rest of the way - except that the Scarlet Knights' so-called home games were to be played at the Meadowlands. 'We feel Rutgers' home games should be played on campus in Rutgers Stadium,' Mulcahy said. Notre Dame played at Rutgers Stadium in the 1990s but the Scarlet Knights were a struggling program at the time. Read more
