Almost seems too good to just stop his growth path to sit on a bench...even at ND. I'd think he'd go low level, play and try to be the next Chambliss.
Chambliss was also signed as a backup…….he got his chance when the starter went down with injury.

I’m sure he has G5 interest, but from that list:

- Syracuse has Angeli but off injury
- Cal has JKS
- BC is also going after Deuce Knight, others
- Baylor is also going after Ashton Daniels, others

To put out that list tells me he is open to P4 backup/redshirt year over G5 starting spot

Respectfully hope that visit never happens (Marsh) but it looks like Plan B has been identified

Need Indiana to lock up Parker Livingstone as well

Cignetti tried to get Marsh to commit on the spot, essentially.

He wants to be done with the Portal after the weekend. You'll see a few guys pop by the end of the day.

Really doubtful Marsh will shut it down. Likewise for Xavier Gilliam.

On 247 it looks like he was recruited out of hs as a safety and Rutgers was his only P4 offer. Recieved hs offers from Yale and UPenn. If Cal and ND are his 2 visits, looks like he is a stellar student who values academics. From the outside looking in, appears to be a good culture fit.

I've been preaching about Ian Strong for the last week! Really happy to see that ND is all over that one as backup option to Marsh if thry can't get thay done. To me he's the obvious #2 option with KJ Duff electing to stay at Rutgers. Strong reminds me a lot of Miles Boykin. If he had the extra burst he's be off to the NFL. 6'3, 210lbs, physical and strong hands. Great on slant and has awesome extension on the deep ball. Exactly what ND needs in a boundary WR.

If Strong is the consolation prize to Marsh, make no mistake, ND will have dine very well there!

Marsh will probably not stay for 2 years. Not sure why people keep mentioning that as a plus. He is definitely going pro after next year unless he gets hurt.
The plus is that we rarely take transfers with 2 years of school. Commonly been freshman or grad school. So kind of shows a philosophical shift that admin is trying to win football championships

Go get Marsh and Strong at WR- Marsh would have 2 years?
Neither guy is coming to ND without a de facto starting spot available to them. They're both transfering to play with a better QB heading into what they hope will be their respective draft years. Therefore, only one of them can be your boundary WR. Even if you could pay them both enough to come, that would block the internal development of Micah Gilbert and Cam Williams in the #2 and #3 boundary WR role. Gilbert in particular has been very good when he's been able to play, however, he's battled two unfortunate injuries (hamstring and broken hand) over his first two years. He's a nice player, who should absolutely be getting 15-20 reps per game behind Marsh or Strong at the boundary spot.

So could you move Strong to the field WR? Sure, but at the cost of Jordan Faison, who had a really nice year out there this year and who just gave uo on lacrosse to focus solely on football heading into his senior year. He's a different kind of player than Strong, but has lots of ability and you already have him under financial control. Again, Strong would not transfer in for a time share at the field WR position with another really good player. That doesn't make sense for him in his draft year. Also, in terms of money allotment (he'll cost north of $1 million for one year) you have Kak Smith and Elijah developing nicely behind Faison and you'll need one of them to be the guy next year. If you fully block their development by recruiting over them, one or both probably transfer (which kills you for next year) and you probably have to forgo adding a player at another position due to the money spent.

1 WR is all ND needs right now. A second veteran guy that could play special teams, the #2 slot role and be a good leader for the group will also be looked at, but only if the price tag is manageable and his expectations of playing time are realistic. I think ND is pretty with a top 6 group that looks something like this...

Boundary: Marsh or Strong
2. Gilbert

Field: Faison
2. Smith or Burress

Slot: Greathouse
2. Saldate or Portal Addition

100% his interest in coming to ND is threefold...

1. Play with CJ Carr (who he knows) and put up big numbers before heading to the NFL Draft as a top 60 player.

2. Compete on a playoff / Natty contending team for his first time in college.

3. Collect a nice paycheck in the $1.0-$1.5 million range for what he hopes is his last year of college.

Barring a season ending injury, Nick Marsh would be a 1 year addition. As would Ian Strong.

You don't get it. For many fans players are like trading cards. Collecting them is the point.

Budgets, team chemistry, and practical fit, all fall somewhere behind bragging rights in the overall think of many fans.
