Because as we’ve seen so far if you start skipping due process for people you’re just assuming are illegal you’re inevitably going to start making mistakes and having legal citizens or aliens caught in the process.

Also this is in our constitution. What is even up for debate here?

Skipping due process doesn't mean you're assuming they are illegal. A person should have sufficient credentials to show they here legally. It's not great that some here legally get caught up in this. If they are, then efforts should be made to return them asap. Look at all of those innocent people who were released from prison after finding out they didn't commit the crime. They were afforded due process.

To your post, Trump and the GOP did absolute jack shit about this during his first term when they also controlled the house and the senate because they were too busy focusing on tax cuts for the rich and freaking out about having to possibly wear a mask at work or whatever. Seems like there’s a trend developing where all these “deals” are Trump simply backpedaling to the status quo that was in place before he came along and fucked everything up.

For example, the Iran “deal” is shaping up to be essentially the deal Obama negotiated, the Houthi “deal” is what they agreed to back in January before the US suddenly started bombing them again. It’s all very stupid.
