I am very surprised that he is taking an assistant job!!!! Thought he would end up a DC or a head coach...he has always had good defenses at GT no matter what talent he had in place....now we just need an OL coach and a NC is right around the corner!!!
BDIrish4ever said:It would seem a little late in the recruiting process to have a GT player jump to follow Tenuta. I sure Tenuta has been out of the GT picture for some time now and I would really be surprised if any player was waiting this long on an unemployed coordinator.
GoshenGipper said:Not likely, besides Tenuta has never been a coach that known for being a very active recruiter or having such a desire to do so. That's one of the main reasons people seem to point to when people try to bring his name up for a head coaching position.
Per BGI, Coach Lewis will remain at Notre Dame and will begin his role as manager of
athletics community relations on Feb. 18.
He'll probably be getting paid like a DC, which shows me that the administration is very serious about the football program. He is also a very nice insurance policy for whenever Corwn Brown moves on to be a head coach.
Quotes from Charlie Weis:
"Initially, Bill Lewis and I were not going to meet until next week, but due to rumors swirling around we felt it was best to address this right now.
"Early in December, I learned that Bill Lewis needed to have both his hips replaced and that he would have a four month recovery. He said there was a chance he may need to leave the coaching staff and that I should prepare a list of replacement names should this come to fruition.
"I spent time with (defensive coordinator) Corwin Brown in January discussing possible replacements for Bill in case this situation arose. Corwin and I talked to a few candidates and agreed that Jon was the best person for the job. Corwin and Jon had numerous conversations on how they would work together and they both agreed this would be a great fit.
"Personally, I'm excited Bill will remain a member of the Notre Dame family and I'm ecstatic that we could offer Jon the position. Bill has been a great member of our staff and he is a tremendous asset to the Notre Dame community. Jon's track record speaks for itself. He is a coach with an immense amount of defensive knowledge and will undoubtedly help our program.
"I will discuss this further on Friday, Feb. 8."
Quotes from Jon Tenuta
"It's a great opportunity for me to coach at Notre Dame and to work with Coach Weis. I'm truly thrilled about this and my family is excited, too.
"Two things attracted me to this job, Coach Weis and Notre Dame. It's an opportunity to coach at one of the greatest traditional powerhouse programs in college football and to work with one of the brightest minds in the game.
"I love coaching defense and Corwin is a very bright young coach who has a bright future ahead of him. He's a great guy who I'm looking forward to working closely with daily. My main goal is to do whatever I can to help the defense become the best in the country and help return Notre Dame to where it belongs."
I believe all recruits will think this is positive...After having his name be thrown around with Michigan and LSU..I live in Atlanta and Tenuta is highly respected...A source close to GT said they were very surprised by Tenuta going to ND..He had many offers.
Also, I wish Coach Lewis best of luck. He's a class guy.

First, GOOD LUCK to Coach on his surgery...all the best for a speedy recovery...
Second, great hire....I see it one of two ways...
1) CB is gone in a couple of years to a HC position and this is a way we can have someone in his place take right over instead of bringing someone in...at the same time as CB is still new to being a coordinator, this guy can help and teach him as he has vast experience.
2) Tenuta will be gone in a year or two...could not find a good fit this year for a HC or DC job...and took this to keep working while adding to his resume...plus he's gotta like the talent we have lined up...also, while CB learns some from his experience, maybe he can learn a bit from a guy who obviously is a world class recruiter going into just his second year of coaching
Either way...sets us up well for a while with talent and experience in the defensive coaching positions that kids will love to come here and get nasty on D!
