So after reading about the President of UofGeorgia begging the NCAA to study a tournament format for D1A College Football, I just have one comment... You have it backwards. The tourny should not be played AFTER the bowl games, but after the season, and before the bowl games.

So the way I see it is, you play 10 teams in your conference. You play 2 non-conference games. No more conference championship games. You take the winner of each conference, including the mid-majors:

ACC Big10 Big12 Pac10 SEC MAC WAC BigEast ConfUSA MW SB

11 Champion Bids. 5 At Large Bids possibly according to rankings, regardless of conference. (IE no limit on bids from the same conference.)
Seedings would go by rankings, possibly BCS rankings.
Highest seed plays at home.

Now heres where the bowls come in, as this tourny progresses top teams are KO'd from the championship hunt, and fill bowl spots accordingly. Guaranteed championship game on or around the end of the first week of January, like they have now. The rest of the bowl games are obviously filled with the lesser teams from the conferences.

This way college ball fans get what they want, a true champion. The sponsors and universities get what they want, big bucks from bowl games. And in the end it ends up being the best night of sex you've ever had. Tired and worn out, you dream away lustily (Is that word?) in your post-championship glow.

I like having the 11 conferences having a chance in it. I know this is very unlikely but I agree that unless they are ALL involved there is room left open for people to question the system.

I'd like to see an elite 8 playoff, but that won't happen. So maybe a final four type scenario. A real matchup of 1-4, not just a +1.

I know i am probably in the minority on this. However I kind of like the way things are now. Every year there is heated debate about this team and that team. In the NFL you have 29 angry teams who failed to win a Super Bowl. In college you have 18 happy schools because they won a bowl game. I am in favor of a +1 in season's where the NC is in doubt (This year, The undefeated Auburn team of 04 as 2 examples). Bottom line is that this is a manufactured debate by the ESPN talking heads as much as anything.

I am a fan of the Plus one system by playing the 4 BCS games 2 of which have national semifinals in them. Then having a 5th game a week later with the winners playing. Also the BCS games should all be played Jan 1, like the old days. The BCS should decide the seeding and the 4 teams in the playoff.

I would love to see an 8 team playoff, however IF they decide to change it I will bet they the NCAA will only go with a 4 team playoff. Anything is better than what they have now

If they decided to do a playoff it should be a 16 team playoff. The conference champs would get an automatic bid into the plays so all conferences get a fair share. The remaining 5 would come from the teams that lost in the conference championship game and the independents using a rating similar to the BCS. Thats just my opinion.

So you are including the MAC and the Sun Belt?

I respectfully disagree. I think the best scenerio would be just the top 4 teams.

11 Conf champs including Mac and SunBelt, the rest of the 5 based on BCS rank. If you are independant and in the top 16 you are in.

Every system that there will be, now or probably ever, will have flaws. The way things are now, more teams than one seem like the best team in the nation. BCS #3 complains they should have been there. Lets say we go to an 8 team play off: thats three extra games for the players of the nat'l championship, thats one more month of football, (which i am in no way opposing more football), but the teams that will get there wont play well because they wont have any time to recover from past games and injuries. And with that the #9 team will complain that they were one of the best 8 teams in the nation. The same goes with a 4 team playoff, some teams will believe they should have been in there and complain because they werent. The plus one system will still have people complaining. Lets take this year for example. LSU won the national championship game, who would they have played? West Virginia would have made a good argument, as would Georgia, and even USC because they were playing good at the end of the year. Whatever way you go with determining a national champion will be wrong according to some schools and fans, there is no perfect way for it.
