There would have been some noise on the coaching front if David Cutcliffe didn't hire from his old Tennessee staff and nab Matt Luke as his offensive line coach or Kurt Roper as his offensive coordinator.

Cutcliffe did talk with Latina over the Holidays to gauge his interest. Latina was only interested in the coordinator position, which was pretty much a lock for Roper once Cutcliffe got the Duke job.

I'm not sure that would have been too bad. Latina is still very much unproven to me. He'll either show why he's the o-line coach of ND this year. Or we will have another wasted year with him as the o-line coach.

I'm not a favorite of Latina either, but let's give him credit to be smart enough to evaluate what went wrong in the past and get it fixed this year. Our line did play much nastier at the end of last season granted it was against lesser talent. I think our O-line will tie up alot of loose ends this comming year.

Put me down as a fan that really expects the O line to either improve drastically this year or CW looks for a replacement for Latina.

Sorry, G&B, looks like I skipped reading your post- you said it better than I did., so reps to you for agreeing with my point before I said it

I will actually be disappointed if Latina is still coaching at ND in a month.

Latina is far from unproven. He was considered for years to be one of the very best OL coaches around.

Like Weis said they did not get stupid overnight. So what happened? Why would someone so successful turn out badly? Hmmm...

I like Weis, but let's face it HE instituted NO full-contact practices. Tell me how a NEW OL guy can learn how to play the position if he is not allowed to actually practice it.

Practice like you play.

I agree. I also think ND's OL was mediocre in 2005-6, and was the worst OL in college football history last year. How long does he get?

Let's not forget that the line was not only young, it was THIN. The whole team was 15 or more schollies short of a full complement, and you can bet your bottom dollar that was most keenly felt in the LINES. Therefore, as bad an idea as low contact summer camp may usually e, it may have been necessary to make sure the starters got to September healthy. I am a Latina supporter. At least, I do NOT blame him for the O line performance in 2007. I suspect what we saw was the last revenge of Tyrone "Sand Wedge" Willingham, who did an ABYSMAL job recruiting. In 2007, all the chickens came home to roost. I expect Latina's line to look lot better in 2008.

The line must get better. If it doesn't, Jimmy's gonna spend even more time on his back. If Charlie trusts in Latina, so do I. Go Irish!
