I live in Grand Rapids Michigan and the next 4 days are going to be in the high 40's and low 50's and thats about 20-30 degrees warmer than normal. I'm a firm believer in global warming now. in my 30 years of living here it has NEVER been anywhere close to even 40 degrees in january let alone 50 degrees.

Why i don't live in the Great White North no mo

1. needing two keys to your car so you can let it run for a half hour to warm up

2. eye lash-cicles (if you have lived there you know what i am talking about)

3. People saying "We NEVER close our schools for snow". like THAT is a good thing

4. Its just not Christmas if you are not shopping in sandals

5. Being able to see your breath. INDOORS

yeah, I've heard the older people from around here (Tennessee) say they can remember when it would snow 12-18 inches deep. In my life time the best I've seen is probably about 8 inches. I haven't seen more than four inches in at least 5 years.

Glbl Warming can be real but the earth goes in cycles my friend. in the 40s they were worried about global warming in the 70s they were worried about an ice age.

I LOVE Grand Rapids. IF I ever moved back north, that would be first on my list. I spent a year there once. The town was great but we were always out at Hoffmaster and Grand Haven Parks, beach in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter. And concerts up at Castle Farms.

Yeah in my childhood we used to get on average around 125-145 inches of snow per year and now on average we get 75-85 inches per year. It gets less and less every year which is fine by me.

Yeah Grand Rapids is a great place to live. Alot to do in a great town. Hoffmaster and Grand Haven are my favorite places to be in the spring and summer if I'm not way up north flyfishing in my favorite trout stream. How long ago did you live here?

Oh I absolutely agree with you that the earth goes in cycles. I'm as earth friendly as I possibly can be though just to be safe. I try to do whatever I can to make our planet a safer place to be. I'm not gung ho about it but It's better than nothing at all.

Right out of college, mid eighties. I didn't want to get a real job right away so much to my parents dismay (paybacks are hell, you with kids just wait) I was a waitress/bartender for a year. Lived with a bunch of friends from UM and IU. We earned beer and gas money to get out to the lake and that was it. Camped all over too. One of my friends was a Michigan Tech grad so we were up at Houghton camping a lot. Few road trips to Ann Arbor and Detroit. Great year.
Our favorite hangout was a bar called The Intersection.

We lived somewhere near Grand Valley State.

Awesome. The Main Grand Valley State university is in Allendale Michigan but there's a large campus downtown Grand Rapids now. That's how huge Grand Valley is getting now.

It was Calvin College. A big older house with 7 post college kids living there. Best summer ever. We went up to Mackinaw Island and camped out by the bridge, went to that island way up at the tip of the UP, Isle Royale? Beautiful state other than UM :)

I just spent 5 days on Isle Royale this past august and Copper Harbor. We toured the whole coastline of the Upper Penninsula. Wow we kinda have alot in common huh?

Oh yeah. There's 39 inches of snow on the ground up there now. Copper harbor gets the second most snowfall per year behind the mountains in Colorado. They average 230 inches per year. Only 34 people live there year round.
