You're wrong he is in charge of the dlines personnel group you don't have the d coordinator doing that it's the position coach. I played college football man I'm sorry you just don't know what you are talking about
As did I, not a bragging competition but I played corner in the big ten. I don’t talk about it on message boards, and will not anymore than that.

The dline coach does NOT determine HOW MANY dlinemen are in on any play, we play anywhere from 1 to 5 depending on what golden calls. The dline coach determines WHO goes in after the call is made. At the goal line we should have had 4 or 5 in, I prefer 5 but golden goes 4 a lot.

There’s a lot of explainable reasons that someone screwed up and this happens once, but absolutely not twice in a row

Putup is a moron I'm still waiting to hear what coverage we were in on 3 and 19 since he knows football so well
A poor choice of coverage, we had our personnel grouping that golden probably wanted osu to think we were bringing pressure with but we dropped the lbs into coverage into a soft very soft terrible zone

If you played corner in the big ten what coverage were they running on 3 and 19

They had zero linebackers at the line they had them off the ball they didn't get the depth they needed and Henderson back pedaled 5 yards deep into the endzone giving him a window for a seam route with the slot which they had been attacking all game

Wait you didn’t even give him a chance to answer.

This debate between former college football stalwarts is the highlight of my Sunday.
Yeah I’m done, there’s so many nuances to coverage to just say cover 4 or quarters is way too simplistic… golden doesn’t yell out run quarters, he has so many other details/aspects to it, or he should. It was just terribly coached, planned and executed

Marist screwed up his depth multiple third downs

My senior year at IN Tech we were playing in the College World Series Lewiston. ID…our 6th in a row. 7-6, 9th inning, 2 outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd…..3rd out, easy ground ball to our 2nd basemen…

…Whoops, fucking ball hits our closer’s (who the Yankees just drafted high) mouthpiece because he spit it out…not a sprinkler, His fucking mouthpiece that was only being used because they didn’t allow chew.

Devastating!! last baseball game I ever played.

I only share this bc last night was the worst I’ve felt sense then. It’s the only comparable I have. BUT, unlike then, The Irish still controls their destiny. Win out, and all is good.

I'm in my 30s. Decided to watch this game with my old man like we used to when I was growing up. He's in his later 70s now, so who knows how many more "big games" the Irish will have that we can watch together...

The entire game was so frustrating. 14 points?! The refs... 10 players last two plays!! ALL the MISSED opportunities... and to still have a chance to win at the end? But have awful clock management squandered it?

Growing pains of a new staff, I guess. But that was really ugly on a lot of levels. Total gut punch yet... I've seen this all before, a few times. So you get used to carrying on as a fan. But I hope the program is learning from this and shows resilience next week. Can't come out flat.

The season's not totally lost yet, but this is not a championship team or program yet. I certainly don't see a CFP appearance in the cards but I'd love to be proven wrong.

How we replace Hartman, may make or break a lot of people's impression of the MF era...
Hah — Good for you, my man. I’m sure pops enjoyed the bonding time. I did the exact same. Our LSU Tigers even took a backseat to this one (even though we had both games up and running). I wish you and your old man (and us) had a better outcome. I’m just tremendously disappointed with the admin and coaching staff (as a comparison, this reminds me of LSU - Alabama, 2012). Just a total kick in the nuts and the better team lost.

That said, keep the faith. ND’s a very good team, despite its coaching inadequacies. Hopefully they can win out and let the chips fall where they may….I’d love an Ohio State - ND rematch in the CFP.

PutupOrShutup clearly isn't stupid. You may not like what he has to stay but he's not dumb.

Freeman should go with a college d coordinator golden is too complex and gets cute at the end of games trying to trick people instead of playing fundamental
I agree with this. We did better with simple defenses where we just run and hit and know the system. I cannot stand complex, blitz heavy systems in college because the players, especially at an academic school like ND, don't have time to learn and practice it all.

So is Ohio St’s overpaid or what? Because they won with 1 second left by a few inches with more talent on their roster. You would think they would blow out a “discount coaching staff.”
They actually might! I promise you they’re going to lose a couple of games this season because they’re not very well coached.

FFS we held Ohio State to 10 pts until 3 seconds left in the game. Some of you guys are pretty unrealistic. We were never going to shut them out. We are a pass rusher away from being a completely elite defense. Al Golden isn't perfect and like every coach has a head scratching call here and there, but his defense gives us a chance to win every game.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) ND lost by 3, not 33. The meltdown mode that some posters go into...
2) ND should've closed this game out at 4:32 in the 4th qtr. and they didn't
3) ND should've stopped Ohio St. on 3-19 and they didn't
4) Hartman didn't play his best, but Hartman kept ND in this game
5) I am really liking the combo of Estime/Love at running back- Estime is a bulldozing RB and Love is a shifty RB
6) Freeman has talked about how Shrader has got a leg, he does for kickoffs, 3-7 on field goals so far will need to improve
7) ND gave McCord too much time in the pocket
8) We've gotten 2 '25 commits since the game so far, the recruits are buying in
9) Freeman said it perfect in his postgame interview, ND didn't execute, OSU did
10) Duke was a trap game for me this season, ND can't be a letdown

Go Irish!!

How can you expect one of the biggest in game F ups in nd history to not be discussed ad nauseam ?
I expect it to be discussed, I'm not saying the answer already given is satisfactory...Im simply acknowledging that no answer is going to suffice, no matter what is said/addressed. So discussing and being mad are two different, especially when demanding an answer to a question that we clearly know the answer to isn't going to lead to a resolution

Shocked, disappointed, mad, confused… yeah I’m all of those with the last 3 plays of the game
