USC started their season wit the Idaho Vandals...
And unless OSU predicted a rebuilding year 4-5 years ago, when schedules are compiled, then that theory seems to have some holes in it.
Here's an article I recommend:
MSU News: 'College Football Scheduling 101' research topic
Are you really comparing USC's OOC schedule and OSU's? USC ALWAYS schedules big. This year they played Nebvraska and Notre Dame OOC. Those games usually aren't cupcakes like they were this season.
When was the last time any of OSU's OOC teams were any good?
And are you serious about not trusting the final season polls? Are you crazy? So you put more stock in the "ranking at the time"? So those teams that beat South Florida should get credit for beating a top 10 team? When Louisville was ranked top 10 early in the season, the team that beat them should get credit for beating a top 10? Louisville is CLEARLY NOT top 10 material. The poll that is the MOST ACCURATE is the poll taken after all the games have been played. We have more data to work with. We can see which teams beat which other teams. It is the only poll that it truly accurate because it is the only poll that reflects the results of ALL THE GAMES. To say that polls taken preseason or mid season are more accurate than the final season poll is simply illogical.
Now, of course there are exceptions. Like when a team suffers a major injury. Oregon was a top 5 team with Dixon and not really a top 25 team without him. But if you beat Oregon while Dixon was healthy, in my opinion, that is a premium win. Oregon State beating them at the end of the season without Dixon in the line up is not a premium win.
Now, back to scheduling. We are already seeing teams trying to schedule NC's. West Va, Rutgers, and Louisville all tried to schedule NC's this year. So did Kansas. So did Ohio State. If we reward this behavior then it will only get worse. The regular season will become junk. Every team will start scheduling all pansies OOC and the only interesting games will be conference games. So I hope that OSU sacks up and schedules someone in the years to come.
Notre Dame's schedule? ND does play patsies. But ND's schedule is almost always ranked among the hardest in the land.
