This reminds me of a King of Queens epsiode my wife and I watched, where Doug got some bonus money and he and Carrie decided to invest in the stock market.

They checked the stock market daily, and when it went down they were at each other's throats until the finally decided to sell when it hit the bottom.

The next day it shot through the roof and made the stock holders thousands of dollars. At the end of the episode, they decided it was the right time to buy in again (when the stock was at the top.)
