Yes, everyone is begging for a playoff after the debacle, but my gripe is that whoever ESPN endorses as far as the BCS or Heisman Trophy race always seems to end up the winner. I can not justify LSU at 2 no matter how many different logical ways I try to accomplish it. Jesse Palmer and Kirk Herbstriet are all over LSU's nuts last night, and what do you know, second in the coaches poll with 11 first place votes. THIS PISSES ME OFF! the sec gets way too much credit in situations like this.

I think LSU can beat OSU handily. They are a very good football team that could easily be 12-0... id agree with them in the NC, slightly off topic but o well

As much as I hate OSU, I might pull for them just because I'm staring to get fed up with all the SEC garbage. I'll give them credit if they're having a good year, but no matter how good or bad they've been over the course of the season everyone is ready to ordane them as the right hand of God by the end of each season.

I've grown to dislike Les Miles more than just about any other college coach. Urban still tops him, but that's about it.

My school of thought on Les Miles is that if he went to Michigan he would make them a much better football team...therefore i am happy he is staying at LSU and Michigan now has to go out and look for another guy

Why can't you justify LSU at number 2? Here are two ways to look at it:

1. They were the champion of the toughest conference. Why would a team with the same record from an easier conference deserve t be ranked higher?

2. Trade schedules. Would any team ranked below LSU have a better record than them? I doubt it.

I don't like Les Miles or LSU, but I think they earned it. In fact, I think they earned it more than Ohio State. And if they get healthy between now and early january, they will kill OSU. If they stay banged up, they will win a close one.

Wrong. That would be Oklahoma. SEC has been very mediocre this year. Don't believe everything you hear.

The Big 12? Are you kidding me? I think you might be the one believing what you hear. You see that Kansas had one loss and is highly ranked, so they must be toiugh. But they aren't. Not one quality win.

Mizzou? A good team, not great.

Texas? Off year for them. Good team not great.

OU...Excellent team.

Who else? Nebraska was not good. Coloroado? TAMU? I think when Kansas and Mizzou are slugging it out to go to the title game, you know the conerence is down. If you ranked in order the teams in each conference from 1-2 and let each one play their conterpart, the SEC wins in a landslide.

The conference is not down, solo. In fact it is up, just b/c its not Nebraska and Colorado like it used to be battling it out doesn't mean the conference is down. OU is legit, and MU/KU are both very good football teams. KU was 6-6 last year but lost in the last minute or overtime 4 times, they had a good team, this year is not a suprise to those of us who actually follow them. There is some good football in the midwest despite what ESPN, and all the other coastal bias mo's think. The jayhawks will show it all over the Hokies, the Sooners will kill West Virginia, and the Tiger will beat whoever they play (probably Arkansas) in the Cotton Bowl, WRITE IT Down!

Agreed. I think this gives us a real leg up on the Michigan rivalry for the next few years.

scUM now has their own version of the O'Leary fiasco.

I think you're still angry for having to work on Veteran's day.

Well, unfortunately I'm not sure how much we will learn during the bowl season.

Kansas? Can anyone name one good team they have beaten? Their OOC schedule was a joke: Toledo, Florida International, Southeastern louisiana, and Central Michigan. They should be embarrassed. Throw in Baylor and Iowa State and that is pretty much 6 guaranteed wins. They played one good team in Mizzou and lost. So how can you really tell if they are good? I don't think they will be ready for VT's defensive speed and physiucal style play. If they beat VT, I will have to give them credit. Until then, I don't buy into the dporead offense coupled to a weak defense. Might as well be in the WAC.

Mizzou? Yes, I think they are very good. Legit top 10-15. They finished 2nd in the Big 12 and get paired with the 6th place SEC team whose head coach just took a job elsewhere. Can't say we will learn much about Mizzou from this win.

OU...They needn't prove themselves any further, but they got paired with WVU? That will be a blowout.

TX...Good, not great team. Zero quality wins. I will be surpised if they can hang with Arizina State. If they do win, I will have to give htme props.

Texas Tech...No defense. Played all patsies OOC. Playing a fairly lucky UVA team that easily could have lost 4 more games than they did.

So how much do we learn about the conference with these pairings? I see a Big 12 that has abandoned the running game for the spread offense and a conference that is no longer strong defensively. I also don't see many quality wins or even quality games OOC. It's hard for me to say that the conference is up. If TX and Kansas win their bowl games, I will have to eat crow. But I don't see it happening.

What's funny is there are people out there who think CW is cocky and arrogant. Have they not watch Les Miles? This guy is a friggin jerkoff!

LES MILES IS A SUCKWAD!!!

P.S. I am glad scUM did not get him as a coach. He calls a game like my buddy plays playstation football... totally reckless. Which makes him dangerous:soapbox:

Maybe off topic but, SEC reminds me of the Southwest Conference that was disbanded, and SMU football was totally obliterated. I'm wondering why SEC is not under investigation.
The athletes don't graduate and they look too huge. Why doesn't Sports Illustrated do a damning story on any SEC team, like they did to ND? Why doesn't Congress investigate drugs and steroids at the SEC level? Are they still feeling sorry for the Katrina episode?

I would say

3. Best losses. Forgetting how good or bad or inconsistent they looked at times if you actually watched the games, both their losses are in triple overtime. To pollsters who don't actually watch all the games, I think that's a major factor in saying "they are better than this 2 loss team because they didn't lose even one game in regulation."

Because in the end, it's about what the pollsters justify to themselves, not about who objectively better if you matched up the teams. This is the flaw and strength of human polls. For those of you wondering, it's a strength because you simply cannot objectively match up even two teams with precision for a single game without a lot of effort, and doing it on a wide scale with countless permutations is simply far too impractical. Using human polls is a shortcut but one that introduces all kinds of biases. But with a large enough sample size, things should make at least a rough kind of sense, which they normally do, as long as you realize that it's not about objective comparison anymore.
