The conference is not down, solo. In fact it is up, just b/c its not Nebraska and Colorado like it used to be battling it out doesn't mean the conference is down. OU is legit, and MU/KU are both very good football teams. KU was 6-6 last year but lost in the last minute or overtime 4 times, they had a good team, this year is not a suprise to those of us who actually follow them. There is some good football in the midwest despite what ESPN, and all the other coastal bias mo's think. The jayhawks will show it all over the Hokies, the Sooners will kill West Virginia, and the Tiger will beat whoever they play (probably Arkansas) in the Cotton Bowl, WRITE IT Down!
Well, unfortunately I'm not sure how much we will learn during the bowl season.
Kansas? Can anyone name one good team they have beaten? Their OOC schedule was a joke: Toledo, Florida International, Southeastern louisiana, and Central Michigan. They should be embarrassed. Throw in Baylor and Iowa State and that is pretty much 6 guaranteed wins. They played one good team in Mizzou and lost. So how can you really tell if they are good? I don't think they will be ready for VT's defensive speed and physiucal style play. If they beat VT, I will have to give them credit. Until then, I don't buy into the dporead offense coupled to a weak defense. Might as well be in the WAC.
Mizzou? Yes, I think they are very good. Legit top 10-15. They finished 2nd in the Big 12 and get paired with the 6th place SEC team whose head coach just took a job elsewhere. Can't say we will learn much about Mizzou from this win.
OU...They needn't prove themselves any further, but they got paired with WVU? That will be a blowout.
TX...Good, not great team. Zero quality wins. I will be surpised if they can hang with Arizina State. If they do win, I will have to give htme props.
Texas Tech...No defense. Played all patsies OOC. Playing a fairly lucky UVA team that easily could have lost 4 more games than they did.
So how much do we learn about the conference with these pairings? I see a Big 12 that has abandoned the running game for the spread offense and a conference that is no longer strong defensively. I also don't see many quality wins or even quality games OOC. It's hard for me to say that the conference is up. If TX and Kansas win their bowl games, I will have to eat crow. But I don't see it happening.
