More likely, it gives him more spots for EE next year.

I just ment that he could, not that he would, and I don't really wnat him too anyway. I'd rather it be saved for next year's class as well. I don't like getting too many guys in one class. It throws off the scholarship rotation and causes transfers.

Sean is the real deal....I've been watching him play for 3 years at Marian....he's going to be a huge asset to the ND program. He's everything ND represents. He will be out of HS by December and down in S.Bend getting a quick start on the deal. He's smart and a hard worker. His parents have given him great support and will continue to do so. A couple of weeks ago he was introduced at a Bears game as one of the Top 80 Players in the USA. He'll play in the Army-Navy Top 80 game in Texas this January. His HS team is in the hunt for another trip to the state football finals.

Sean Cwynar was selected as the Illinois player of the year. He beat out Steve Filer; Cwynar must of had a monster year!

I think I just saw a quote from Tom Lemming saying that Cwynar could end up playing along the offensive line at ND. Anybody got anything on this?

at 6'4" 280, i suppose he could. but I don't know why they would want him to. we need DE's just as badly as OL

Hey Mike, do you have a link to this? I've been trying to find one, but no dice so far.

The following on Nov 15, states Filer and Cwynar were finalists along with a 3rd player, but nothing about who won.

IHSA - Announcements

The winner was to be announced on Nov 24th

We aren't moving him since he stated in one of his interviews that the coaches wanted him to drop weight as opposed to gain it coming into his frosh year. I find it hard to believe that they would ask him to do that one week then switch it up within a month.

He can still kick at 280 right?...... I wish I were less serious about that....

Sean picked up a visit from Rob Ianello on Sunday and they worked out the final details so that he can be an EE. From what I've seen it's now a done deal.

That's "MISTER Football" to you ...

That's "MISTER Football" to you ...

Congratulations to 2008 DL commitment <strong>Sean Cwynar</strong>, of Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock, Ill., who just this past weekend <a href="http://www.mchenrycountysports.com/articles/2007/11/28/fall_sports/football/doc474d22d9d1ef3529190965.txt" target="_blank">was named Illinois "Mr. Football"</a> for the 2007 season:
<blockquote><span class="story-detail">Sean Cwynar was blown away Saturday night, which is a rare sight, considering he stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 285 pounds.</span>

The Marian Central senior lineman watched some of the IHSA state football championships and enjoyed the Class 8A game from a skybox at the University of Illinois’ Memorial Stadium. Then, at halftime, Cwynar joined Montini’s <strong>Garrett Goebel</strong> and Chicago Mount Carmel’s <strong>Steve Filer</strong> as the three nominees for the Mr. Football award.

Cwynar, who started at offensive tackle and defensive end, was named the winner of the award, given for the first time.

“I wasn’t expecting to win it,” Cwynar said. “It was cool. It’s a real big trophy. Those guys were two real good players. Just to be nominated as one of top three players, when you look at all the all-state players around the state, 20 in each class, was an honor. To be Player of the Year is just awesome.”</blockquote>
Cwynar also talked about his decision to graduate early from high school and enroll at Notre Dame a semester early to take part in spring practices:
<blockquote><span class="story-detail">“I’m excited about [enrolling early],” said Cwynar, who ranks in the top 30 of his senior class. “It was cool to get the opportunity to do that. I knew last summer [I could do it], but I had to take a religion and a Spanish class to get enough credits. I just kept it quiet, I didn’t want [graduating early] to interfere with the season.”</span>

Cwynar was a two-way starter on Marian’s Class 5A state runner-up team in 2006 and again this season, when the Hurricanes reached the 5A semifinals. By enrolling early, Cwynar can join the Fighting Irish for spring practices. First, he will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 6 in San Antonio.

“[Enrolling early] will give me a lot better chance to have some early playing time,” Cwynar said. “I’ll have a whole extra semester to work on everything."</blockquote>
Congratulations, Sean! The ND community looks forward to seeing you around campus and on the playing field.

A good head on his shoulders

A good head on his shoulders

From a Chicago Sun-Times <a href="http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/highschool/cs-071129foot,0,7769004.story?coll=cs-highschool-headlines" target="_blank">article</a> on 2008 DL commit and <a href="http://www.irishenvy.com/irishroundup/thats-mister-football-to-you" target="_blank">Illinois Mr. Football</a> <strong>Sean Cwynar</strong>, who will be enrolling early at Notre Dame this coming January:
<blockquote>[Cwynar] carries a 4.2 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and ranks No. 25 in his class.</blockquote>
Sheesh. Most of football players I knew in high school would have been lucky to pull in a 2.4. Where does ND find these kids?

The article also mentions that linebacker commits <strong>Darius Fleming</strong> and <strong>Steve Filer</strong> were named with Cwynar to the Illinois All-State team. Congratulations to all three of them!

Rivals is slacking in getting Sr. highlight footage up this year. I wanna see why Cwynar got Illinois player of the year award.

Don't worry about it....he had a great game at the Army AA game...recovered a fumble in the 1st Q...got double teamed the rest of the game because he was going after the QB...now he's in classes at ND...he say's it's real hard...working out with the boy's...had a drill the other day with the line, inside at the pratice facility....he went up against everybody and "handled" them...coaches gave him the big pat on the back...he took every one of them down....he's going to surprise a lot of people....under rated...IMO...

considering cwynar didn't exactly dominate at the AA game/practices. I'm afraid it's more likely a reflection of our offensive line. I'm hoping I'm wrong.

A little bit of both I am sure but the OL is our biggest issue coming into this year...hoping they improve A LOT!!!! Not holding my breathe with LAtina still coaching them...great recruiterbut average line coach at best!!

He's saying he will make the O-line better because they will have to face him everyday in practice. I don't believe anyone even remotely thinks he will be on the O-Line

Summer camp could look a little awkward with Ian W, Cwynar, Newman, and Ethan making our first team OL look bad. I hope I'm wrong. No offense can operate unless the big boys up front are movin people

I don't care if it's awkward -- they're there to play football, and if they're worried how they look because some frosh is beating them regularly, then sit their butts on the bench and get someone out there who wants to mash.

This OL needs to get nasty and step up to the challenge. I think they will.

DING, DING, DING, DING!!!! SHOW HIM WHAT HE WON JOHNNY!!!

I'd rep you 50 times over if I could. This is football not Dr. Phil..ball or something.

Words of Wisdom:

If they don't want to get beat by a freshman then don't get beat by a freshman.

This team will be all right. It is good to get depth so that their practices will start to be more competitive than the games.

if the Offensive Line struggles this year then latina has to go. i do like the fact that cwynar is battling and mixing it up already. he has some nastiness in him which will hopefully permeate throughout the entire team. i don't care how young the kid is. it's time to play football
