Maybe this season is what we`ve needed since Lou left.To many years of being average. The program went through this in the late 50`s early 60`s with 2-8 records in 56,60and63.Things run in cycles,Miami,Fla.St,Nebraska, are down,5 to 10 years ago LSU,USC were not very good and now they are back.I just hope we dont end up like Alabama, the`re sill looking for the next Bear Bryant!I just hope next year we can build on this season,we`re a young team so i think they learn from this disaterous year move on and get better.Lets hope however that CW is not Joe Kuharich or we are going tobe in trouble for a long time.

They be ok long term. Yeah it's very hard right now as fans but if they were to blow everything up I think it would ruin the program for good. You just can't have that much instability as a program. It'll never work.

if the recruits (who actually have a real life stake in this program) haven't jumped ship, then no one else should.

Who cares! As God as my witness we are going to be a power house in the near future.

I would sure like to believe you but I haven't seen anything from this coaching staff that says we will even be competitive

I am to the point that I dont' care if we win that last two games. I just want the young guys to get a chance to get some experience so they will be more prepared for next year. This season has been horrible, and anything CW can do to help ensure that next year isn't more of the same he should do. Old stand-bys like Zibby aren't doing jack. He's not doing anything but lowering his draft stock at this point. Put S. Brown in there now and let's see what he can do. At least he'll get some experience.

Lose to Duke, lose to Stanford. whatever. I will be watching. If they win, I will be pleasantly surprised. If not, at least its over. Next season is what's important at this point.

It is alarming but I think Wahoo has a good point. Either these kids aren't nearly what they've been advertised to be or the coaching is lacking. I think the players are btter than the coaches (which isn't saying much for either).

The staff did well the 1st two years and the guys coming in look better on paper than what was here and some of the frosh and soph look better on the field than the 05/06 guys did when they were frosh and soph so I hope that means they will up their play and end up being better.

At what point does supporting the team mean suggesting change? What am I sipposed to say to critics of Ty's firing who also think ND should sack CW? Citing his recruiting isn't enough. He also lost some key recruits at the eleventh hour last year. I'm willing to support CW for another year but if they don't win at least 7 and avoid losing by 20 I'm done with him (but not the team) they can also take the AD with him.

I will ALWAYS support the Irish. I think you can offer critisim and still be a supporter.

Oh, I didn't mean it that way. I realise you can cunstuctively critisize and still be a fan. I'm talking about the people that could care less aboput going to the games or at least watching them or those that start personally ripping the players or coaching staff.

Well he took ND to two BCS Bowls, which isn't easy, and Ty's alreay almost out at UW after 3 years.

If we go 0-12 next year, I'll be excited about the start of the 09 season. I'm a Fighting Irish fan dammit, and I'll be on this board through the lowest of lows ... and I'll welcome all of the fair weather fans who jumped ship and return for the highest of highs. There is little to salvage from this year, but I'll be rooting just as hard next year and every year after that. Go Irish!

I've been an Irish fan for far too long to give up now.

I'm too damn old to start rooting for another team. :)

Yeah, I'm frustrated by this season. But take a few minutes and look into the future. Read about the recruits we're getting this year, next year, and the year after that. If they don't get you excited about the future of Irish football, nothing will.

The backfield is as good as any backfield Holtz ever recruited. Kamara is special. Tate made two incredible catches. No newbie stands out on defense, which means the DC is doing a good job, except for the OLB ability to protect the outside. I'm thinkin these 12 star recruits are trying to get over homesickness, adjusting to actually attending school, and trying to beat guys 5 years older.

I'm so sick of NBC talking about weird stats. "ND hasn't lost to a service academy coached by a guy named Larry since 1827." "Unless you count the citidel, which was coached by Fred Smith, who beat ND in 1828, on a flea-flicker triple post option right."

Amen to that!
The only part I disagree with is welcoming back the fairweathers. I won't welcome them back. As far as I'm concerned, if someone doesn't have the fortitude to weather the storm with their team when the chips are down, they don't belong in the sea of green when the team gets back to winning.

it is easy to see how the players could have been beaten down by this season to the point that they are not 100% involved any more...just look at the reactions of the fans! Losses to Navy and Air Force and people seriously doubting we can beat DUKE (losers of something like 28 of their 29 games!)...

The overwhelming pall over the program - from players to coaches to studnets to alumni to fans - is oppressive. This season can't end soon enough, and the cancerous players on the team must be rooted out.
