Why ND is down but wont be for long?

I found this little fact on The Blue-Gray Sky and found it interesting. We, or at least the ones who really know ND football, could see this season coming. And this is why it is happening and wont happen in the future:

"As the 20th commit, Floyd is the 16th in the current class ranked with a 4-star or higher. Adding these 16 recruits to the members of the freshman and sophomore classes, ND has 41 players with a 4-star or higher coming out of high school (according to Rivals). The previous three classes had 11 players total with such a ranking. While the star system is not the be-all and end-all of talent evaluation, when used as a quick summary of a class, the star system is historically fairly accurate at pegging the overall strength of a class. This is shaping up to be a very strong class indeed."

We will be back, Great job Charlie and your staff.

GO IRISH!!!!!

Having the talent is obviously helpful. But taking that talent and developing it is critical. Let's hope that happens.

You can already see development in Walls, Smith, Neal, Williams, Allen, Aldridge, Tate, Kamara, Parris, etc. That will not be an issue. You cant develop what you dont have. In order to be a good/great coach, you have to have the horses.

Now, if we can only see some development in Duncan, Turkovich, Olsen, Young, Stewart, and the rest of the OLinemen, we would be getting somewhere.

Exactly, GoIrish41. If we don't develop our OL recruits, it won't really matter what we do with everybody else. This season is proving that!

Alot of schools can win with 2 and 3 star players.....see Cincinnati, UConn, USF. We need our players developed, whether they are highly ranked or not.
How much better are the seniors in the secondary? Or has the OL improved enough so that if we played PSU, the protection would be better?

The talent will be there, but that is not enough. See Davie.

good post... this is my basic thought as well... recruiting is EVERYTHING in cfb... look at the teams of the last 15 years who have recruited well (top ten year after year)... very 's few have not won or played for a National Title... Recruiting is the only thing seperating CW from our previous coach... but that's a big difference I must admit

If we played those schedules we'd win a lot more frequently too

Navy is the caliber of opponent those teams play. Now they do run an unconventional offense. But that shouldn't have stopped our offense from dominating their defense.

I guess these next three games will show if that statement (that if we played the Cincinati's, etc, we would do better) is true.
