I think this is the worst game I have ever seen a Notre Dame team play. Words cannot describe how poorly these guys are playing this year.

I'm about to listen to the presser and see what CW has to say about this.

I don't think it's a matter of trying to dissect what we did wrong. The offense has so little success, there's just no answer when they just aren't ready to play, and don't execute.

When Vanderbilt can score 17 on South Carolina and we can't score when we recover a fumble inside the 20 yd line, it's not about inexperience, it's not about lack of talent, it's not about lack of leadership.

"aren't ready to play" is right. This is the worst coached, worst prepared team I have ever seen. I'm not just talking ND history, I'm talking EVER. The mistakes just can't be explained or analyzed any further.

I honestly believe we have talent, but it's what is being done with talent once it gets to ND. What goes on during the week that this team is the worst offensive team in college football history?

In his presser, Weis hinted that Sharpley is likely still going to be the starter unless he finds in the film review that Sharpley was the problem. He said he didn't think Sharpley was the only problem and that the film would show that.

The Worst!!!!

The Worst!!!!

Without a doubt these guys are the least prepared team I have ever seen in all my years watching the Irish, abosolutly the worst!

Defense cannot stay on the field forever and if the damn offense could get some serious yardage on first down's that can stretch the field out a bit. Poor play calling to boot.

They were in the game for about a quarter in the half the SC got going then turned the damn lights out on our boys.

Nice uni's though, except the socks style was not worn in 77. The Irish had real thin stripes.

It's just saddening how nothing can seem to go right for these guys. They are trying and trying, but they just can't get it done. I really think there's mental blocks in place now. The offense especially just plays scared most of the time. Ugh, it was definitely not the most fun game i've been to.

If that turns out to be true I probably won't watch another game this year.

I agree Sharpley didn't overwhelm, but I personally think it is better that Clausen not start. Not because he will do worse, but because there are things he can learn without taking the lumps. He has already shown he can take the lumps, so we don't need to worry about him being gun-shy once he does get in there.

I look forward to him returning to the starting line-up, but I believe switching back and forth is not helpful.

However, I also think we need more patience, not for Weis' sake but for our teams. USC's fans booed them in close games this year. Michigan's fans booed them in a bad loss to Oregon after the loss to Appy state. ND fans should never, and I hope will never boo our team. I know criticism of Weis is not booing the team, but let's show the college football world why ND and its fans are different than the rest of the college FB world, by not calling for our coach's head after every loss.

If we have road games they will probably not be on tv and I will be very happy b/c so one should be subjected to watching our team look like monkeys f'ing a football

Even though it's probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do I totally agree with you. ND is ND and we'll always be that. I've been watching ND football for 22 years and have NEVER booed and never will!!! GOOOOOOOOOOOO IRISH!!!

How was this harder than the loss 2 years ago? The hardest things are losses you could have won... national titles that (at the time being) slipped away.

It's national titles or bust; this game wasn't any worse than I knew could potentially happen.

Wow

Wow

I guess there is nothing to do right now but laugh at where this program is at under Head Coach CW (can't win). As an alum and follower of the Irish for over 25 + years, I've never seen a team so inept, and that includes the Faust years! At least Gerry's boys could muster an offense (Pinkett left, Pinkett right, Pinkett up the middle, and Punt; with the frequent touchdown mixed in).

Changes need to be made and they need to be precise. It all starts at the top with the Athletic Director. Dr. Kevin White needs to go. He's NOT a Notre Dame man and I firmly believe that's what we need. The whole Kevin White ND football saga has been interesting to say the least. He extends Bob Davie’s contract twice only to wind up firing him. Hires Tyrone Willingham who was a bust but won’t fire him and so the board goes over his head and somehow White keeps his job. Then he fails to attract a high profile, proven head coach and settles for Charlie Weis. He’s now extended until 2015 and the team is sitting at 1-7. Personally, I thought he should have been gone when the board fired Willingham against his will. Most AD’s with any sense of pride would have resigned in that situation. If Weis can’t turn this thing around in the next couple of years, he should be gone, as well as the guy who hired him.

I'm not sure if we can lure Gene Smith from The Ohio State University just yet, but I think we can get a suitable replacement in the meantime to right the ship. Who would this person be you ask? I don't think I'm delusional when I say this, but bring back LOU HOLTZ.

I know Lou doesn't have any athletic administration experience, but I do believe he knows what would be in the best interest of this university, and especially it's moneymaker. He's been noted that he still loves the university and would love to come back in some capacity. Even if he's not the full-time AD, make him the overseer of the football operations. I don't care if Weis feels slighted one bit. Weis' has been way to smug and arrogant and needs a muzzle to shut his trap. Lou should have been put on a search committee along with Ara and maybe a couple of other distinguished domers when they went looking for Willingham's successor. Maybe he could have talked Urban Meyer into coming here.

I'm not saying that Charlie needs to go after this season, but he does need to make some wholesale changes with his staff after the season. First and foremost, Offensive Line Coach John Latina has to go. His line is the worst in Notre Dame history giving up 39 sacks so far this season. Missed blocks and assignments and disarray should not be the staple of this offense. Secondly, Rob Ianello needs to be the recruiting coordinator only. His term as the Receivers coach needs to be over. He's an excellent recruiter and has pulled a remarkable list of incoming recruits for National Signing Day. The signing of Michael Floyd was the only bright side to this weekend.

Brian Polian also needs to go. Although Charlie said every coach will have a hand in the Special Teams this season, it's still Polian's bread and butter. His other role as inside linebackers coach isn't better either. Maurice Crum and Joe Brockington are playing well because of Corwin Brown's coaching, not Polians.

Where should I start with Bill Lewis? Nice man with a butt load of credentials, but DAMN, can't you teach a defensive back to turn around and look for the ball. Darrin Walls has been tremendous and will be another great defensive player when he graduates. As for Highway 22 (the quickest route to the endzone) Ambrose Wooden and Terril Lambert, I'm not sure if you'll be playing your way past a NFL practice squad in the near future. You're great kids with plenty of potential, but were hampered severely from poor coaching and technique.

As for the others, Offensive Coordinator Mike Haywood, Defensive Line Coach Jappy Oliver, Tight Ends Coach Bernie Parmalee, and Quarterbacks Coach Ron Powlus, they get the stamp of approval and should remain intact. Haywood's hands are tied because of the poor line play. Jappy Oliver has done a tremendous job and has steadily improved the progress of Pat Kuntz as Nose Guard. Also Trevor Laws has played his way into the first day of the NFL draft! Parmalee is excellent and Powlus can definitely help mold and relate experiences to the quarterbacks.

Loyalty was one of the main downfalls of the Willingham regime by sticking with his staff. Kevin White made it clear to Coach Ty that he needs to get rid of his coaches or you're out the door. We all know where that ended up. Weis is a smart guy and needs to do the right thing for this program to succeed and get to where they want to be: The Best Football Program in the Country.

The future will be bright with the players coming in, but that's what it will only be unless changes are made.

Man, calm down. I'm no big Kevin White fan either, but it's WAY too soon to be giving up on Weis.

Not to beat a dead horse, but seriously... forget the god-awful record we have. We're 8 games into the season and have you seen our team play?

I could handle 1-7 at this point if it weren't for the fact that we're never even close to being competitive (save the 1 game our DEFENSE won against a team playing a freshman walk-on QB who was judged to be the 3rd best QB in his conference in high school), our offense looks like a botched abortion, and not only are we dead last in almost every offensive statistic there is, but we're on the verge of making history in that department (and not just ND history, CFB history.)

The people who are losing faith in Weis aren't losing faith because we're 1-7; we're losing faith because our offense has looked like a Pop Warner tryout from day 1 this year and has shown little to no signs of improvement.

People can keep offering up all the same excuses, but I have a feeling that many who doubt Weis at this point will just write those excuses off as homerism until this offense starts to look like it at least deserves to be on the field.

I hear you, Timugen. Watching the team this year has been embarrassing. But I think Weis gets a pass for this year - well, maybe not a pass, but the point is that he shouldn't be fired just on the basis of it - because of the youth of his players, the difficulty of the schedule, the lack of upperclass talent, the fact that there's going to be a learning curve to adjust to the college game (e.g. practicing in full pads) that Weis has to be allowed to go through, etc., etc., not to mention the fact that he was so successful running an offense in his first two years. As I've said a bunch of times I think, the last of these considerations is really the most important to me: when we look at the differences between '05 and '06 on the one hand and '07 on the other, there are lots of salient things that stand out that could account for the huge drop-off in offensive production. Weis has done an AWFUL job this year, no doubt about it, and he's pretty the LAST guy I'd want coaching a team made up primarily of inexperienced freshmen and sophomores. But with a different kind of roster, which he'll have to some extent next year and definitely the year after, there's every reason to think he can get the job done.
