why did two $500 lottery tickets cost me $1058?

why did another person who bought 5 $500 tickets only have to pay $2010??

I do believe VC members get discounts on vbPlaza items. I usually forget we even have a lottery untill some one brings it up. I've never played it.

I figured out there's a 2.75 percent purchase tax. What !?! that's more interest than the bank (2%) offers. It also appears there's a tax on the pot (winners history shows a small percentage is taken off the pot compared with the total payout) Do we have democrats running the lottery or what? Does that money go to the schools? hee hee :eek:grin: Just hav'n fun. No one get their panties in a bunch.

Alright I think this lottery is fixed. At least it's not based on mathematical probability.

I think I played the Daily lotter last three days. The first day I bought two tickets, someone else bought 5. Doesn't seem unusual that the one who bought 5 tickets would have a better chance at winning.

But, the next day I bought 5 tickets, someone else bought one ticket. The one ticket purchaser won. Highly unlikely, but that's luck right?

Next day, I bought 5 tickets, someone else bought one ticket. The one ticket purchaser won again!

The likelihood that the one ticket purchaser would win against the 5 ticket purchaser on two consecutive days seems extremely unlikely. Similar odds to rolling dice, getting a one and rolling again and getting a one. (I took Mathematical probabilities too long ago, but I believe its 1:36)

At least the lottery money goes to the v-kids right?

I know. When I play video poker on the computer, it shuts itself off until I pay up.

No problem dude.....You bet money, and you never win.
Questions?

Kinda like when I got married. I put money in my wallet, then its gone.

Besides, with the amount of money you have, you should be conserving money as opposed to blowing it.

I know. But if the lottery money goes to the v-schools and benefits the v-kids, it's foolish NOT to play.

Statistically, with the number of days the lottery has been around, that someone would be in your case is not actually surprising. Especially since I'm pretty sure you and the other people weren't the only ones buying tickets, and that more than one person bought only one ticket. As the number of people buying just one ticket goes up, it actually becomes VERY likely for this scenario to happen.

Say you buy 5, but 20 people buy just one. It's actually 80% probable that someone who just bought one ticket wins, while only 20% probable that you win.

But even if something is improbable, doesn't mean it can't happen. I could look at the buying history and give you a real statistical breakdown if I wasn't so lazy, or if it was actually worthwhile, but hopefully you get my point. I think that point is that I am a nerd, which I think came across pretty well. ;)
