Not to throw this thread off track but, OSU looked absolutely nasty tonight. Tressel is a machine.
I simply refuse to accept that hypothesis....beat teams that they should beat? You bet ya. Intimidate the skunk bears? Yup, especially under Voyd Carr... Truly 'great' teams? No sale...
Purdue showed in the second half against ND that they were pretenders all along. Painter was pretty bad against ND, especially after halftime save the lone 4th quarter drive; and down right pedestrian against OSU. What OSU did was simply play 60 minutes against the Boilers instead of 30 minutes...
All I needed to know about the 'great' Buckeyes was answered in the last two year's of BCS games. You get them away from home and away from their Big Integer cupcakes and they don't look terribly intimidating to anyone but the skunk bears....
First the Fiesta Bowl with ND. Yes, they won it. Yes the final score was 34-20, BUT....that game was 27-20, ND had established offensive momentum in the fourth quarter after a largely inept first half and they had forced OSU into a 3rd and long with over 3 minutes left....If Troys Myth hadn't bailed them out, that Fiesta Bowl might have been a whole lot different. As it is, I remain convinced that the ND-OSU game actually played a bigger role in Troys Myth being awarded last year's Heisman Trophy than anything to actually happen during the season...
Second, their de-pants-ing at the hands of Florida last year. That game really needs no further explanation...it was an ass-whipping from start to finish...
It takes more than a questionable OT win against Miami and a failed game against Florida to make me believe Tressel is an all-timer...that and I just can't take anyone in a sweatervest seriously on general principle alone...
