Calling the kid trash is way over the line, the kid made a mistake and now he has to take his punishment for his actions. No football for a year and he has to live with this for the rest of his life, is punishment enough for me. It's not like he went out and shot, stabbed, sold drugs, raped or even beat somebody up for no reason, that my sir is the definition of trash.

Trash I think not, stupid is better suited.

To take it one step further...He's not stupid, as he's proven to be a smart young man and has lasted at ND for a couple of years. Let's just say that "stupidity" was exibited in this one instance.

Thoughts?

Ok

Ok

Ok, guess I was a lil harsh on the guy. He made a mistake. And it really ticked me off since he plays on the DL, which we cannot spare to lose. Hopefully Ian Williams will get in there and just be a MONSTER. This could turn out to be a good thing.

More of stupid decision is what i meant, everyone makes mistakes but its what you do after it to make sure it never happens again.

But it definately is one big brain fart on his part. Im sure he has already learned from it and feels like hell.

If RSN doesn't see the field after his DUI then Hand won't see it either, this is the way it has to be. At Florida Hand would've gotten a slap on the ass by coach.

The punishment was over the top ? haha. The dude was busted while making a deal to pay for 'oral sex' from a female that he thought was a prostitute, but in fact she was an undercover police officer. That kind of crap has no business in a Catholic school.

Wow. I'm not sure what you are referring to as "that kind of crap," but if you don't think that premarital sex occurs at ND, you are quite naive. In fact, you may find this hard to believe, but some students at ND (gasp!) do not attend Mass every Sunday. Some students use drugs. Some students are binge drinkers. There are a lot of things which happen at ND, which have no business happening at a Catholic school. But they do.

I guess that I am so naive ?? No wonder Notre Dame has lost so many bowl games in a row. Darned ole sinners.

You want to explain why you think these sorts of activities have anything to do with ND's performance in bowl games? FYI, this stuff was going on 10 years ago, 20 years ago, and 30 years ago.

A little harsh arn't we? Kids will be kids, that is one reason for leaving home to attend school, to sow a little of the oats and get some direction out of life. Even the Amish have a similar right of passage. To say that students whom attend ND should be beyond reproach and above others seems to be a little lofty, don't you think? Especially considering that, OMG, not all that attend ND are Catholic.

Now I may be reading a little into what you have said, and I don't DH made an overly wise decision, but make statements and thoughts of this nature seem to be a little far fetched. Just my $0.02....

Wow...I thought McCarthyism was gone? While I agree that standards and principles have long been dissapearing from our society...it is really unfair to label people and to suggest that the breakdown is stemming from any particular group, school or class of people.

As for the bowl losses, I for one feel that it was the lack of speed and a non-existing defensive scheme that was to blame there?

It'll be interesting, I think, to see if he is allowed to stay in school. He may not just be kicked off of the team, but expelled from school as well. I don't know how du Lac works with the student body, can some of you alumni elaborate a little for us subways? What are his chances of staying in school, or will it be a case like Kyle McLarney, in which he'll have to attend classes somewhere else for a semester or even 2, then reapply for readmission. Is it harsh, maybe, was it stupid, certainly, but one thing remains constant from the turning of the early 1900's, kids will be kids, and they have to learn somehow. Sometimes it just has to be the hard way.

Do forgiveness and understanding belong?

And about the sowing what one reaps...is that why USC, Florida, etc. are so successfull on the field?

my only comment(s): were you there? do you know exactly what happened? calling him trash is uncalled for. the guy made a huge mistake. I'm sure he greatly, greatly regrets it. i think this is a little more than just DL depth. this is this kid's future that we are talking about.

so i'd say just hold off a little bit on the preaching.

Just this week, this is what Weis said. He said that he is not disrespecting the other colleges such as Florida, USC ... but THIS is NOTRE DAME. There is a much higher reputation to live up to. I agree.
