I prefer to keep both AND add better teams. I would love it if each week we played, say, MI, MSU, Tenn, OU, Penn St, sc, Bama, tOSU, miami, fla St, Purdue and Pitt (so that we kick the shit out of mark may's school every year).

With that schedule, not only would each Saturday be F'ing fantastic to look forward to, but we'd get tough quick and nobody could talk about our SOS. And, yes, many many awesome cheerleaders led by sc, Tenn, fla. st., miami, Bama, and MI actually has some of the best yr in and yr out. (I caught that other thread - lol)

Look at our schedule as it is now, it is really no differant than if we were in a conferance. I look at it as if we're in a conferance the way our schedule looks now. Conferance teams scheule mid majors to beat the crap out of. ND fans like to think that we're better and special compared to teams in a conferance, but by looking at our upcoming schedules, looks like we're a conferance team to me.

One last thing. Do you really like the fact that our AD publicly states that he's wanting to water down our schedule? Or, the fact that we told Bama" that we have no room on our schedule, but WSU is now on our schedule? I just feel that we're good enough to play top competition anyplace, and at anytime. With the recruits that CW, and CB are bringing in, why in the hell are we afraid to play teams from around the rest of the country that are great teams? I would rather watch a great game with a traditional power than watch some blowout against a mid major that should have never been on our schedule to begin with.

I know I probably sound like a whine ass to you, but I expect better from ND. Some of the games on our upcoming schedules just don't look like they're very interesting.

I totally agree. Who wants to see SDSU, Nevada, and Duke? Shouldn't ND be playing at least three matchups every year against traditional powers? Does it bother folks that we have no room for Alabama on our schedule, but we do have room with Washington St? Isn't there something wrong with this picture?

Well I tried to include my original post but not sure why just the one showed up...

Anyway, think about it...we beat Pitt yr in and out...Purdue, same. MI St. Penn St, probably, that's four wins a yr. Then the rest is gut wrenching games with teams we will be able to run the table on - in the not too distant future - in any given year.

Tenn, fla. st, miami, OU, wait...look at it this way...

Only sc, tOSU, and MI of that schedule were real good last year. And actually, tOSU and MI were exposed as posers n their bowl games...And I KNOW we are going to have some very very very good teams upcoming...

Not so crazy if you break it down. And think of those 3 fantastic Saturday's of no margin for errors...man, I would love it.

You would love it, but we would lose like 3 a year.

Think about the best teams EVER since Rockne...how many undefeated seasons did we have? Four. That's it. Four.

1988
1973
1949
1947

There is basically no margin for error anymore...playing more than 2-3 TOP teams is like flushing a National Championship down the drain.

OK, but I would add 1966, as undefeated. And again, as devil's advocate, in that time, how many Div. 1A teams have had MORE undefeated teams than us? How many 1-loss teams have won a NC in that time? Or even 2-loss? I don't know the answers, but I bet there were at least 10, 1-loss.

We are going to have the talent and the coaching (CW/CB) to go undefeated against a schedule like that (and especially them all with their last year's teams). Plus when you are the best, you win all because you ARE the best. The late 80's and early 90's we had some great talent (88-94) and some great (great meaning tough) schedules, but because of voting the best teams instead of determining it on the field, only '88 was a championship.

It can be done!

1966 = 9-0-1... There are no ties anymore...that one cannot count as undefeated (aka perfect season).

As for ther CW/CB beating all with the best talent...you are dreaming. Even the best miss out.

I honestly would rather see UM. I could care less about MSU. I have always viewed this one as a let down game for the team, which usually, as of late, had negative conotations later in the season.

I understand the feeling, but we have serious history with MSU...not nearly as much with UM.

I do not like any of the proposed changes. I do not want to be like everyone else and play Tiffin, Fla. Int. and the like. Keep Neveda, San Diego St. , Baylor and the others off our schedule. Put OU and Ala on but take a break from BYU, Stanford, and those teams. We should play UM, MSU, USC, Navy, Purdue, and BC every year. Some other teams could alternate spots, Pitt, PSU, Miami, FSU, GaTech, UCLA, WASH, and similar teams. If we go 12-0 with a schedule that includes some patsy we will hear it more than UP, LSU, FSU or anyone!

----With the schedule you want, we'll never go 12-0.

Never say Never. As we have seen in the past, injuries, graduation, suspensions and coaching decisions ans changes effect everything. Since schedules are made 5 years in advance, you never know what will happen. Look where we were 5 years ago and look at us today.

OK, so we don't go 12-0, worse things have happened in the history of CFB. With the possibility of having a final four in the BCS, we won't have to go 12-0, we just have to make the final 4. I don't like selling out our integrity for playing mid majors, bottom feeders, and the like. I personally don't see anything wrong with playing 3-4 marquee games a year against traditional powers. USC, UM, a SEC power, Big12, or ACC. Looking at our schedule this year, we have USC, UM, Penn St. As for the rest, I will not consider them powers or bottom feeders. Purdue is at best a 7-8 win team. UCLA is the same. They might be better, but until they prove it, that's what they are. Who else, BC? Again 7-8 wins, maybe 9, but who knows how the ACC will actually turn out to be this year. GTech, lost their best weapon on O, but has a decent D, but again, who knows how the ACC will be this year. Navy will win about 7-8 games a year, but they always do. MSU, what more do I need to say here. They are a long way from being top 25. People are talking about how tough our schedule is to start the season, but if you really look at it, outside of Southern Cal and Michigan, we could and in all likely should win at least 6 of our first 8 games. GT, Purdue, MSU, BC, UCLA, and PSU are quality names, but depending on which one shows up, depends on how good the game will be. All of those teams can beat us, but all of those same teams had games where they absolutely did not show up at one point in the game or the whole game. We have 3 heavyweights on our schedule this year, and I love it. I put PSU in that category for now because they've earned it, and we don't play them all that often. If we made it to a BCS game, that would in all likelyhood be a 4 marquee matchup. We're talented enough to do it, but not experianced enough to expect it.
