I was wondering if anyone had updates on the Brady Quinn contract situation. I heard he might hold out, but I think it would be wise for him to get to camp early.

Only one player in the first two rounds has signed yet. These things don't normally get done until the last minute. He might holdout, he and his agent probably feel that he is better than the 22nd selection, and might try to get a better contract, a la Matt Leinart last year. They will most likely agree to an incentive based contract that will allow him to earn top 15 money if he reaches certain escalators.

Quinn doesn't seem like the type of person or teammate who would bitch for more money and then hold out if he doesn't get it. He should have a contract signed before camp, in my opinion.

it's easy to stand on principle when millions of dollars aren't hanging in the balance for you. should he simply assume that the team's management will be fair in their offer and accept it at face value? quinn's agent is being paid to get the best deal possible, and that doesn't necessarily mean he should sign the first offer he sees. it's a negotiation process that all elite athletes must deal with.

I never said any of this. All I was saying is that I think Quinn will have a contract signed by camp, and that if he doesn't, it won't be because of selfishness on his part. I'm sorry if I wasn't too clear.

the way it usually works is he will wait till the other QB's finalize a contract and then go from there...you can't negotiate how much you will earn until you know what the standards are

Listen, I loved watching Brady Quinn play for the Irish as much as the next guy. My enjoyment watching him in college will carry over into the NFL, where I hope he has much success. And although I believe he should've been a Top 10 Draft pick, in reality, he was drafted 22nd. Either he or his agent need to seriously realize this or else he is going to start out his career with a bad name. He was not a top 10 pick, and therefore does not need to be paid like one. Damn I hope Brady comes to his senses.

One thing to remember is that the Browns gave up next year's first round draft pick(probable top 10) to get him. That's a lot of money that can go towards Brady this year.

THat isnt alot of money to him this year that is alot to him NEXT year! NFL has a cap they cant use all the money that the would use next year they still have players here this year. Next year the Browns will be well under the cap and they will use for FAs or an increase in salary after a year but it doesnt mean they can use that money this year especially with two first round picks the money is going to be low.

As a lifelong ND and Cleveland Browns fan I was ecstatic when I heard that the Browns drafted Quinn. I don’t like to see him holdout because he definitely could be the number 1 for Cleveland but I think that Cleveland will pay him whatever he wants. But I’m sure I speak for everyone in northern Ohio when I say that Brady should be in camp ASAP.

Quinn get in camp on time. If your agent can't get it done fire him. It's your name on the paper.

It getting close for rookies to report and I hear that Joe Thomas and Brady are still not close to a deal. I hope he gets there soon because he has a shot at taking the job from the start. I can't wait to see him get on the field.I hope both sides can come to a good finiancial agreement. If he does what he's capable of he will get his money eventually.

I have a feeling that things will be done not to far in the distant future...If there is a hold out, it won't be long.

The end result of all of this for Quinn and the Browns???.....

Might I point out that Quinn is a millionaire before he signs his NFL contract. Personally, I agree that Brady isn't the type to hold out, I just think that his agent is an idiot. The dude couldn't sign my grandma up for the fountain of youth. That said, because Brady has money from Nike & EAS, to name a couple, I think that he should shoot for an incentive based contract that pays him for performing. I also think that he should limit the length of his contract, so that when he actually kicks a** for the Browns, as we know he will, then he can get the contract he deserves sooner than later.
