I think a few people are taking the "Corwin Brown wants physical corners, that's why he's going after Blanton and Slaughter" thing too far.
Fact of the matter is, we can have those guys AND get a smallish, quick CB to help us.
The fact is, the majority of college football goes three-wide, and in the slot, you usually have a smaller guy. Brown can cover this with his quickness and speed.
Just because we've recruited certain types, don't get carried away. Flexibility is huge week in and week out -- if you're playing Penn State one week, yeah you want guys like Slaughter and Blanton. But when USC comes into town, you're going to need all the speed you can get.
Fact of the matter is, his size won't keep him off the field. Parcells and Belichick have constantly relied on big, physical corners (Ty Law) as well as small, fast guys (Maurice Hurst, Tyrone Poole, Asante Samuel, Ellis Hobbs).
We shouldn't get carried away here -- you need to be flexible on the defensive side of the football, and Brown gives us this flexibility. It'll be a scholarship well spent if/when he commits.
--------I couldn't agree more Katz. I'm a bit puzzled on all of the Jeremy "B" list type put downs. The staff offered him and he said that Weis is fighting for him to play offense while CB wants him as his DB. Well then....sounds like a player that our coaches aren't sold on right? Get used to hearing about Jeremy because he's coming up next week and unless something terrible happens he'll be donning the Blue & Gold for the next 4 years. Just because we have Slaughter and Blanton as more physical corners that means Walls, McNeil and Gray will never see the field because they aren't converted safties to cornerbacks. It's those same type of people who are complaining that we should've offered Compton over Poz....like I don't even know what to say to that. Jeremy is an ATHLETE and last time I checked we need those. He caught 13 balls last year...thats it.....6 of them went for touchdowns. That means every other time he touched the ball he took it to the house. We have Goodman committed and nobody else and you're already burying him on the bottom of our depth chart behind guys who aren't committed to us? thats kind of laughable. We don't "settle" on guys with early offers and offers from every team in the SEC.
