It will be interesting to see how Brown reacts to all of the talent we are getting on the Defensive side of the ball. If it is as important for him to play with talented people as he says, you would think we should shoot to the top of his list.
We should have the #1 defensive line class in the country without question. Wtih A. Brown we would also have the #1 LB group for the year. Even without him we would have top 3 with the addition of either Filer or Sabino and in our secondary we basically got our top two CB targets with Slaughter and Blanton. With the possibility of J. Brown or McCarthy (or both) jumping on board the DB class should also be in the top five. I can't imagine anyone in the country matching us on the defensive side of the ball. If we get a visit I think our chances could really improve. A tour with Corwin and a ND vs USC game in South Bend could go a long way.

Would of said slim to none just a month ago. But with ethan johnson jumping on board :O and the way this 08 class is shaping up i would say that now we have alot of our final targets taking notice of what is goin on. Brown is coming up next week, Sabino and KLM are planning summer trips. I dont think anything is out of the question for the rest of the way :)

I'll show a little caution in saying this:

Everything depends on how the visit goes. The school HAS to impress Arthur, and Corwin HAS to connect well with him, for us to have a shot. Not out of the question, but we've got to go to work, with guys like USC, OU, and "The U" ahead of us. Otherwise, our goose is cooked. Even at that, I'm still skeptical of our odds.

A recent article had it that he wants to play OLB because he can stay lighter and faster there. To me, that sounds like he's planning to play in a 4-3, because ND's OLB's are NOT going to stay light at all - Fleming said the staff wants him as close to 250 as they can by the time he gets to South Bend. For those curious, he's currently about 215 pounds.

That would pretty much mean Brown would have to play ILB for the Irish... and even at that he'd have to bulk up enough to take on offensive lineman with some regularity. I'm not saying he couldn't succeed in a 3-4, but I tend to think he'd be leery of signing up for a defense that asks their linebackers to be bigger than the norm, rather than quicker than the norm.

Thoughts?

------I don't see A. Brown coming here because when he talks about ND in that article it sounds like he's more about wanting to see USC/ND and then remembers to add...Oh yeah he likes ND too. He won't have to be 240 or 250 at ILB, but he'll have to be around 235. He sounds like he likes the 4-3 defense as an OLB so I like CB would REALLY have to sell him to get him to want to be an ILB here. Fleming isn't at 215 right now, but at 237 and still runs a 4.5/4.6...

Until Fleming starts playing upright at the line of scrimmage, he'll continue to work on getting after the quarterback and keeping his speed. Fleming said he's up to 237 pounds and hopes to play this season at 245.

I agree, but if Brown has aspirations to play in the NFL, which we can only assume he will, he is going to have to add some weight. There aren't any 210 lb. LB's in the NFL and very few in college. With his frame, Brown is going to accidentally hit 225 or 230 in two years and I think that would be about right for the ILB in the 3-4. Brown can say he doesn't want to put on weight, but 210 isn't going to cut it at OU, USC, or anywhere else. TE's would eat him up, let alone offensive lineman. John Carlson weighs 260.

Wichita linebacker drawing national attention

By TEREZ A. PAYLOR
The Kansas City Star

WICHITA | It’s the first day of high school football practice in Kansas, and at Wichita East, a player recently dubbed the best high school football prospect in the nation is just trying to work his way through the heat.

Yes, all eyes are on Arthur Brown, a senior linebacker who is being called the best player to come out of Wichita since Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders.

Two cameramen from local television stations come by to check out East’s first practice under new coach Brian Byers. They don’t talk to Brown, but they all make sure they get footage of him doing drills.

This is really just the beginning, and Brown knows it. But the thing is, he never expected any of this. He never thought he would become college football’s top recruiting prize.

But that’s what happened this summer when Scout.com, a respected national recruiting Web site, anointed Brown as the nation’s top prospect in the Class of 2008.

So yes, this is an important year for Brown. And Brown, a quiet, reserved kid, says the onslaught of attention he’s received has been overwhelming. He’s already done interviews with The New York Times and USA Today. Plus, he’s been in Sports Illustrated.

“I’m more of a laid-back kind of person,” says Brown, whose uncle, Lawrence Pete, played in the NFL for five years. “I have a lot to say, a lot for people to hear, but I don’t speak up most of the time. I don’t want to say I’m shy, but I guess I am a little bit.”

However, it only takes one look at his highlight tape to understand why he’s getting so much attention. Brown’s unique combination of size and speed — he is 6 feet 1, weighs 210 pounds and runs a 40 in 4.5 seconds — jumps out on film. So does the way he uses it to terrorize quarterbacks and running backs.

And he’s not the only member of the Brown family receiving attention. Brown’s younger brother Bryce, a running back, already is considered one of the top juniors in the nation.

Bryce, who is 5-11 and 215 pounds, rushed for 2,039 yards and 26 touchdowns for East last season. Arthur had 158 tackles and eight sacks. Together, their stats look like something out of a Madden video game.

“Arthur and Bryce are the highest-ranked guys we’ve ever had in Kansas,” said Rivals.com recruiting analyst Jeremy Crabtree. “We’ve never had two five-star guys like this, let alone top-15 guys in the entire country.”

That’s why Rivals lists Arthur as a five-star prospect and the nation’s 16th-best player, and Crabtree says Bryce has a good chance to be the nation’s top prospect in the class of 2009.

That’s why Wichita East’s game against Dodge City (which has a top recruit of its own in quarterback Kale Pick, who is headed to Arkansas) on Sept. 7 will be shown on ESPNU.

That’s why, despite the fact Arthur stopped taking phone calls, staffers at recruiting Web sites called his home three or four times every day earlier this summer.

But Brown knows he hasn’t really seen anything yet. Starting Sept. 1, college coaches can call him at home once a week. Brown, who has more than 50 scholarship offers, already gets about 15 letters a day from several high-profile colleges. USC’s Pete Carroll, Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops and Florida’s Urban Meyer have all come through Wichita to sell him on their football programs.

“Coach Meyer told me he’s selling me on championships and Tampa chicks,” Arthur said, laughing.

Hold your horses! Arther and his brother are rumored to be in on campus for the Navy game.
This would be HUGE.

I imagine it would be an unofficial, as I can't understand using an official visit on a school you don't even have in yout top 10. Little does he know coming to the campus is our our secret weapon. Muaaaahahahaha.

Apparently it was on the front page of B&G for a short while. I believe it has since been taken down.

We have very little chance to get arthur at this point i'm more interested in his younger brother. From all i've read he's supposed to be one of, if not the best rb in the class of 2009 and maybe even the #1 overall recruit let's hope CW can make an impression on him.

Same here, although I'd take him if he wants to come.
