Rivals analysis follows - - - no way we finish regular season at 7 - 5.

I love Rivals ranks JC #1 overall and then turns around and says he is the most overrated.

I think 31 is more than fair... as far as JC... the kid will be a failure in the eyes of the country when he doesn't win three national titles... and the press will love it... already feel bad for the kid to be honest... but he'll get the best coaching at that position in the country... earn a degree from one of the top non ivy league schools in the country and become a top draft pick...

he'll have the last laugh many times over

------Yeah it's BS, he had to of thought that limo Hall of Fame announcement over though. Once that happend all the people came out and the Clausen bashing will never stop. If he doesn't become that LeBron James of football he'll be "Ron Powlus" which is BS but trust me when I say this...They are just jelous and everyone knows it.

Though I'm hoping that it doesn't happen, 7-5 record is highly possible. With the young (though talented) bunch ND will have on the field, there will be a guaranteed learning curve. The question is, how long is that curve?! Games @ PSU, scUM, Purdue, UCLA and then w/ the Boston Cry-baby Univ. and USC "sucks" invading ND stadium .... like it or not, there "could be" 5 losses. And if 5 losses occur, 30th to 35th ranking is a likely result.

I agree with you 7-5 is very likely and I would be happy with an 8-4 season capping it off with a bowl win.

This should be a fun season to watch with alot of new younger talent on the field.

Inexperience and a brutal beginning don't bode well for us, but if we survive the first few games we should be ok. I think the key to our successful season is how well our thin lines play, especially in the fourth quarter.

I think Notre Dame is better than a 7-5 team, but their schedule sucks.

Rankings mean nothing and if we win games we'll be in the Top 10 by the time SC comes and you know 7-5 isn't gonna happen. It's going to be better yhan that.

Guys,
I am glad to see all the optimism, but let's keep our expectations realistic. If we do not, we will all be screaming for Charlie's head about mid way thru 2007. When you look at our schedule and who we have returning the reality is not a pretty one for this year. I am EXTREMELY geeked about our long term future, but 2007 could get rough. I am looking at 7-5 as the baseline. With a few breaks we get to 8-4. With a few not so good breaks and we are easily 6-6. This is how I see our games.
Definite Wins>>>>> Navy, Air Force, Duke (3) We just have too much talent for these teams.
Should Wins>>>>>Pudue, Stanford(2) We have better talent than both. Stanford is the wild card. The game is at Stanford. Both of last two years we struggled a bit with them and it is hard to know what the coaching change will bring.
Toss Ups>>>>>Georgia Tech, Michigan State(2) Both teams gave us all we could handle last year. Both have lost key players, but so have we. We will get both teams absolute best effort of the year. GT brings a very good D. MSU brings two huge running backs to batter our small D-line.
ND underdog games>>>Boston College, Penn State(2) Both of these teams will have very experienced teams. BC probably has its best and most experienced team in many years. PS will return most starters and they will not forget last seasons thrashing in SB. I was there. If we do win one of these, I say it is PS because I believe ND has solid coaching advantage here.
LOSSES>>>>USC, UCLA, UM(3) Don't try to feed me this theory on sneaking by USC. Come on, they could easily field two teams that would beat most teams in the country. They may have lost, Jarret and Smith at WR, but they have several 5* recruits waiting in the wings. If you are going to say our young talent will grow and mature this year, you must admit USC's will too. Furhter, they are loaded everywhere else. It's a loss any way you slice it, sorry guys. UCLA gave us all we could handle last year. They get basicly everyone back and with the game at UCLA we could experience a long day. They are fast and very talented. UM, this is the one I can say I hold a small glimmer of hope for. They are loaded and this should be there year, but Lloyd Carr is not a coaching genius. Further, weird things just seem to happen in this series. I was at this game last season and we did not get beat as much as we beat our selves.

So, there are really only 3 gimme's and 2 more should be win games. This carries us to 5. We will have to win every game we are favorite and both games which will be pick um spreads in order to get 7 wins. Do not lose faith if we slip up and only get 6 wins. The program is headed in the great direction. Charlie is going to be fielding VERY talented and powerful teams 2008 and beyond. We are just too darn young in 2007, plus our schedule is darn brutal.

good post but the schedule is what it is, we can not use that as an out. also I don't think anyone will be calling for CW head if this year doesn't turn out great. He has done to much in the positive for the fans to let that happen. One game at a time and this team will be fine

Is it me or are we writting off the Michigan game as a loss? Am I the only one that has looked at the recent history of this rivalry and sees that the favorite usually gets beat?

2005 at #3 Michgian we won 17-10
2004 vs #7 Michigan we won 28-20
2002 vs #10 Michigan we won 25-23

I am not saying it is a given but do not be surprised.

Big Mike,
Did you read my post. I did say that weird things happen in the UM series and I hold a glimmer of hope. Just understand that we will not be even close to the favorite. Go IRISH!!!

I was just trying to add to the weird things. You are correct we will be an 8-10 point dog. For some reason I do not see 7-5 in our future for this year. We will not get beat by the inferior teams and we will surprise a few people. Overall your post was deadone.

I agree with SillyIrish that 8-4 would be satisfactory, considering how green this year's crew is. A bowl berth and WIN would be phenomenal!!! Either way, I'm pumped for this year.

The week leading up to the game is going to go by so slowly I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it.
