I thought I'd shift the topic of discussion from the 1st round loss to see who everyone's favorite ND b'ball player is.

I think I'm torn between David Rivers & Troy Murphy. Hopefully, there'll be another upset to shift the focus from ND's loss. Damn, 1st the Sugar Bowl embarrasment & then a loss to Winthrop in the NCAAs...we're due for some better outcomes in '07!

Bill Laimbeer. Actually, he might be the least favorite. Favorite would be....hmmm Murphy maybe.

That I watched:

John Paxson (I am waiting for Bulls fans to rip me apart)

Of all time:

Austin Carr

The 6-4 Notre Dame guard holds NCAA Tournament records for points in a game (61), most field goals in a game (25) and most field goals attempted in a game (44). He scored 158 points in three NCAA Tournament games in 1970, averaging an all-time single-season best 52.7 ppg. He made 68 of his 118 field goal attempts in those games for a sterling .576 shooting percentage. The next year Carr "slumped" to 41.7 ppg (125 points in three NCAA Tournament games). No one else has averaged even 36 ppg in a single season in the NCAA Tournament.

Carr's 41.3 ppg in seven career NCAA Tournament games shattered Bill Bradley's 33.7 ppg record. He has three of the six 50-plus point games in NCAA Tournament history (the other three are by Bradley, Oscar Robertson and David Robinson) and five of the 12 highest scoring NCAA Tournament games.

Best ever ND basketball player

Best ever ND basketball player

Without a doubt Austin Carr. I had the privelege and honor of attending all of his home games in his junior and senior years. I was also at the NCAA tournament game when he set the record of 61 points. I was at the game where he dumped 46 points on UCLA and ND upset the heavily favored Bruins. The thing that makes it all the more impressive was the fact that it all occurred before the 3 point arc. I have always maintained that he was the best college basketball player I have seen, not just the best ND player. A minor point to RichardRiots post, I believe that there were a few additional 50 point NCAA tournament game scorers. One that comes to mind was Chris Jackson of LSU.

This information may be wrong, but according to CBSSportsline (link below) there are only 6:

Adrian Dantley. Didn't have great height, but powerful player and tremendous competitor who came thru in the clutch.

Plus a really nice, down-to-earth guy.

I liked Chris Thomas a lot. I know a lot of people didn't like him in the end, but he was still a fighter and a darn good player. And I'm too young to remember a lot of those players you guys are talking about. but I liked Ryan Humphrey a lot just for his style.

and then of course, I gotta love Ruth Riley and Niele Ivey.

Favorite men's player - Definitely Troy Murphy. I loved his inside/outside game and he was a force to be reckoned with.

Favorite women's player - Without a doubt Ruth Riley. She was so dominant.

Remember the good ole days when the PA announcer would announce the starting lineup? He'd get to Woolridge & Tripucka & really milk it:

Kelly Tripuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuka
Orlandooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolridge.

Good times.

You're making me feel old. It seems like only yesterday that Carroll was donning the blue & gold. He was pure money from outside the arc...or really anywhere which is why he's pulling a nice NBA paycheck.

Bill Laimbeer doesn't deserve the trash heaped on him by some of you. My guess is you have never met him and rooted for an NBA team other than the Detroit Pistons. I have met him and he's an intelligent and nice person off the court. Also, like any great competitor, he'll give no quarter on the court. A question I ask is....if your team had an opportunity to obtain Laimbeer would you want him on your team? You say no and I say you're a loser, because Laimbeer was a winner.

Like many other things, everyone has an opinion. Doesn't make them a loser because they disagree with you.
The answer is no. I would not want Laimbeer on my team, nor Bonds, nor T.O., nor Iverson, nor Ainge. It's called standards.
