In what would be the first ND offer in quite a while, Rivals is listing ATH Chris Harper as having an ND offer. No other site as of yet has confirmed this offer.

Harper was an attendee at the Potential College Player Day yesterday at Arthur Brown’s school, Wichita East High School. This combine was attended by Pete Carroll, Bob Stoops, Dan Hawkins, Urban Meyer, and Mark Mangino, among others.

They were mostly there to see the Brown brothers, but apparently Harper was the second most impressive Junior athlete there after Arthur Brown. Harper is primarily a RB in High School, but he worked out as a QB and WR at the combine. Some of the coaches commented that Harper was even more physically impressive than Brown, and his athletic versatility led to talk that he was capable of playing Safety, LB, and possibly even DE, (in ND’s case an OLB in the 3-4) in addition to RB, QB, and WR. Scout’s 3 star rating is likely to change after this event. Harper is already on the ESPN 150 Watch List at #130.

If the ND offer is confirmed, then all of the schools listed above have offered Harper. Rivals has K-State listed with “High Interest”, but given the high profile coaches that were in attendance at this combine, and the glowing reports on Harper, look for Harper to now expand his horizons beyond the state of Kansas. If it is true that ND has offered, the Cockwad and the Poodle can not be far behind, as well as Meechigan.

great info IUB, I'm glad your always on top of things.

What position do you think CW has in mind for him? He's got LB size and he looks awful mean in that first pic, perfect to play LB. He's got some serious speed too if that 40 time is correct. I'm guessing he's gonna blow up as a recruit

I have to think OLB. Harper is similar in size to Darius Fleming, only faster. Both Harper & Fleming will probably add another 20-25 lbs. to their frame before college without affecting their speed or quickness. Harper could also easily play Safety, but with his physical stature, IMO it would be a waste of his talents. If he is as good as these guys were saying after yesterday, I can't even imagine what a set of book end OLB's Fleming and Harper could be in the 3-4. There I go dreaming again.

sweet dream IUB, sweet dreams

I wouldn't mind seeing our LB class finish out w/ any 2 of the combo of Harper, Sabino, Sweat, or Filer. All seem very impressive but my preference is still Filer and Sabino just for the recruiting connections.

I agree, Filer & Sabino would be a great wind-up to the LB class. Harper, if he is offered, is probably going to be a tough sell for ND anyway, and if by some chance he did end up here, and the LB slots were full, this kid's apparent versatility and athleticism would allow him to play just about anywhere with the exception of the OL & NG/DT.

Ah, but not to try to throw a fly in the ointment, love those cliches, what happens with Filer especially & Sabino, if Sweat really does end up at ND.

You know, somebody's friend's Uncle's best friend is a friend of an assistant coach at a school where Sweat was at yesterday, and they said he was wearing an ND hat. OOOH!!, he's ours for sure now. Don't you just love those 4th hand twice removed posts with meaningless info.

Yea, I agree, if Sweat came and both Filer and Sabino wanted to come, that could be a dilemma. I honestly find it hard to believe that CW wants to take more than 5 LBs in this class. I believe that CW will cap the LBs at 5 and someone will simply be left out.

Back to Harper though, his versatility would be a great addition so that would be a very nice asset to have. I'm sure he could be used elsewhere, dare I say, even at CB. He could be one incredibly physical safety.

This kid looks like a tremendous athlete from the pictures, and the measurables are great. I would love to get a guy like him lining up at LB, if for no other reason that I am sure that he would excell as a Special Teamer if he had no success as a starter at LB.

He could end up starting at safety or corner and just be physically dominant like bryan scott was and did at PSU.

We really need either filler or Sabino.

Harper provides the versatility that any college coach would love to have....to fill that position which went unfilled for any number of reasons. This kid has the size, speed and desire to make a great football player. And I assure you, he did not go unnoticed by FL and USC.

He reminds me of Taylor Mays from USC.

An "athlete", but at his size and speed, he'd be perfect for a hard hitting safety. I don't agree with trying to move him to LB -- this guy could be a monster in the secondary for four years.

Any particular reason you say this, IUB?

Only reason is that it is not a particularly strong recruiting area for ND. There is not a single kid that I know of on the current roster who is even from the state of Kansas. Other than that, because this is so new, there is very little other info about Harper, and what he might be thinking, other than he favored K-State early on.

Anyway, no reason to get too excited because even though Rivals lists him as an offer, Harper's coach is saying that ND has not offered yet. Also, the coach is saying that if ND offers, they are recruiting him as a WR. Very interesting.

WR? that is very interesting indeed. His body type isn't what i'd imagine for a WR prospect. I could even see him more as a big RB than WR but if that is true, CW knows best. I bet this guy could break some tackles.

Physically, he compares quite a bit to Greg Little, IMO. Big guy, built like a RB/LB prospect, but athletic enough to be a receiver. It'll be interesting to keep tabs on.

Hopefully those G. Little similarities start and end at the "physical" ...

Well ND will have one player from Kansas next year in Brian Smith but I know what your saying. He's a nice prospect to get into the fold and figure out what he is later.

Scout.com: Chris Harper Wide Open

-----Chris will be making unofficial visits to ND, Illinois, and Michigan and early July. He just received offers from Michigan, Cal, and Illinois. ND may be close to offering, but is waiting on his ACT scores on which he thinks he did good on. Does anybody see an offer coming out to this kid if his scores are good?

He definitely passes the eyeball test. The guy is ripped. I'll try and find the pic I saw a few weeks ago on rivals.

Since the Irish are, according to his HS coach, recruiting Chris as a WR, it may be more of a possibility now that Gerell Robinson has decided to stick with Arizona. Both are raw talents as a WR, Harper would probably be considered even more raw than Robinson, but also have a slightly better athletic upside.

He looks jacked for sure. Hopefully he performed well on his standardized tests so we can get an offer out to him.

Chris is coming up on Friday to visit ND.

It's good that he's coming to visit even without an (official) offer. With his frame and 4.45 speed, he should be able to wreak havoc at whatever position he so chooses for the next few years.

Corwin Brown has visited him a couple of time lately even though ND hasn't extended an offer yet. I've also heard that ND really likes Chris a lot at WR.

He plays both WR, and QB for his high school team.
