Joey T. was discussing Brady Quinn on Mike & Mike in the Morning earlier this week when he pointed out his one criticism of Quinn. He started criticizing his appearance. He noted that Quinn was chewing gum, that it looked like it was the 1st time he'd try to tie a tie & that his hair looked like he just walked out of the shower & let it dry. Of course, he blamed the agent for letting Quinn not appear "professional".

Sorry Joe, this isn't an interview w/ Merrill Lynch...it's the NFL draft. The kid sat in front of the world for most of the 4 1/2 hrs it took for his name to be called. I think I'll give him a pass. BTW, JaMarcus Russell (aka the greatest QB EVER drafted) was chomping on gum when he appeared on stage, too. In usual Brady fashion, he handled it w/ class & humor when asked about his new haircut after his 1st Browns practice. He said he apologized if he didn't represent ND the way his fellow alums had hoped, but that after sitting for over 4 hrs. waiting for his name to be called, he wasnt' thinking about adjusting his tie or that he still had gum in his mouth. He was thinking about grabbing that Browns jersey ASAP.

Maybe Theisman was on the topic of 1st impressions & looking businesslike b/c he's been doing some interviewing lately, being as he got canned as part of the MNF crew & seems to be relegated to the college game. I would imagine it hurt the former Domer's ego a tad & he's been talking to other networks. Just a theory.

and as usual, Quinn was all class with his response. He just knows how to say the right thing. I'm not even sure where this came from originally. It's AP though.

"Quinn spent the past few days in South Bend, Ind., reviewing his new playbook and relaxing. He also got his hair cut -- at least one person thought he needed one.

Earlier this week, Joe Theismann, another former Fighting Irish QB, blasted Quinn in a radio interview, saying the 22-year-old looked "unprofessional" when he was on stage after being drafted. Theismann had a problem with Quinn's tie, his "just showered" hair and was bothered by him chewing gum.

Quinn took it all in stride, but acknowledged the comments stung.

"It's tough," he said. "I apologize to anyone, obviously, who is a Notre Dame alum, or for those fans who thought I wasn't being very business like. I was there for awhile, and at that moment in time, when you finally get picked after waiting for 41/2 hours, the last thought in my head was spit out your gum, fix your hair or make sure your shirt and everything looked good.

"I was just trying to get on stage as fast as possible and get that Browns jersey in my hand."

Quinn said Theismann's remarks were the only negative ones he heard.

"I'm a big fan of his," Quinn said. "I guess he's not a big fan of me. He's one of those guys -- Joe Theismann, Joe Montana -- they've been right there along the way, people who have kind of come back and helped out our program. And he has been one of those big influences, so I have a lot of respect for him.

"I think him making those comments only kind of makes you look at yourself in the mirror and say 'Well, hey, maybe you need to look at those sorts of things.' And obviously, there in case is the haircut." "

I bet Theismann gets a bunch of crap for those comments. Jeeesh. Couldn't a Notre Dame man stay off the Bash Quinn bandwagon? They have nothing else to criticize him for, so hey, let's go after his appearance.

Screw Theisman. If he has to jump on the Quinn hating bandwagon instead of supportting an ND QB much better than he ever was in college, who needs him. Break a leg Joe. lol

Theismann is just plain stupid. Im not sure if anybody remember's, but he is the same guy that once stated during a Browns/Steelers game that, "the team that scores the most points in this game is going to win".

Even Dan Patrick disagreed w/ Theisman's critique. When an ESPN dude is defending a domer, then you know Theisman won't get much support w/ those asinine comments.

Theisman needs to drink more.

I saw that thing on Mike and Mike, but I didn't think it would be any big deal. It seemed like Brady took it as something that he should change, which I'm not surprised, but I liked his hair long and Joe made way to big of a deal about it. As usual Brady complied with the request and now has the short hair.

he is football smart, but he is way too negative. all's he does is point out what teams/players are doing wrong while calling a game. i think that is why he was dropped from MNF. people want to enjoy a game, not hear how bad both teams are playing.

he's still bitter about not getting that heisman..........

I wonder if the fact that BQ owns just about all the QB records at ND has anything to do with it? Is Joe jealous?

I think he was let go because he was constantly on Kornheiser and fighting with him. It was really embarrassing to listen to Joe do that on the air. And then to go after Quinn for having long/wet hair, I bet Joe sported a mullet back in the day.

I like Joe in the sense that he calls it as he sees it. He doesn't play Mr. PC on air. Just because he decided to straighten out BQ, doesn't mean that he is an ass.

i don't understand what had to be straightened out about BQ. The kid looked fine, most kids in their early twenties have shaggy hair. hell, my hair is long now and i'm into my 30's. it doesn't mean that a person can't function if the hair is a bit long. enjoy it while it still grows up there!

i agree that joe prolly rocked a mullet in the day.....

What is appropriate for most kids is not appropriate in that business setting. He is supposed to be an on-field leader of an NFL franchise, not looking like he just stepped out of the shower. It's called good etiquette, something most kids don't appreciate, especially in church.

He is not in a business setting. Quinn is not applying for a job with Dell as a Acct Exec, he is going to play football, if you can be as ugly as Bernie Kosar and get an NFL gig then it is all about performance not looks. Jim McMahon did not look like or act like a corporate guy and he won a super bowl, matter of fact just as many as Joe Theisman.

Sorry but this bullcrap and joe stuck is foot in his mouth yet again.

the NFL isn't your typical business setting. I don't think the hair is going to take away from his on-field leadership or ability to make plays or his ability to act professionally.

look around the league. tons of guys have longer hair. i don't think any of it takes away from their ability to be leaders, make plays, and act professionally.

Sadly, Joe has taken too many head shots. I present this evidence...
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein."
Well, he sure called that one right...huh?

One of Namath's famous quotes was "I can't wait for tomorrow because I get better looking everyday." This, I believe, was also a title of one of his books.
