After the usual Gainesville shenanigans of the past weekend, it should come as no surprise that the Irish would soon be offering another Linebacker. However, the name may surprise you, Etienne Sabino.

Sabino is definitely on the same level as the existing 7 LB offers and will be also heavily recruited by the Cockwad and the Poodle. Rivals and Scout do not have Sabino on any of their pre-season lists, but he is #28 on the most recent ESPN 150, which makes him their #3 ILB. Corwin Brown is recruiting Sabino for ND, and as has become the norm, the word is that Sabino is very impressed by the new Irish DC.

Does anyone think that going into one of the mainstays of Gator recruiting land to make an offer to a LB this week has anything to do with “The Golf Cart Tour”. I’m not saying, I’m just saying. Just kidding, the two events are almost certainly not connected.

I wonder if anybody involved with our program regulary checks up to see what recruits tell these sites that they don't tell them like with Sweat you think they read how Urban and OSU lead for him, they obviously would just check to see what they are saying...i would think more than a couple of teams have somebody who scans those sites. Recruiting has taken a whole new life these last couple years.

We know that they do. Some recruits have said that the coaches contact them after articles come out to see how true they are. I know that Coach Brown did this just recently with Sweat after his O$U trip.

IDK if its true but i heard a rumor somewhere on hear or some other board that he may be the next likely commit. Anyone else hear this

I have heard a variety of stories. One is as you mentioned: Sabino is likely to be the next ND verbal. Another said that Sabino has the Irish leading at this point. One poster said that he wants to get out of the state - though his might have been strictly opinion. Meanwhile, another simply said he has announced a top three of FSU, UNC, and ND.

Point being, there is definite chatter, coming from (apparently) a poster on a rivals or II board, with a pretty good reputation for having inside information. What that is, isn't 100% clear. I'm pretty sure most of the rumors sprouted from a premium access board, because otherwise I probably would have seen links to the discussion.

I doubt he's anywhere near the next to commit. But I think we have a good shot. One thing's for certain, if a LB wants to come to ND, he'd better jump on board soon.

his video on rivals is pretty impressive. he seems to work better in space and traffic than almost anyone in the class. his ability to see the play develop and get to the play quickly makes him a top 5 LB IMO

After CW's visit with Sabino on Friday, all the news coming out of Miami is positive, and the source is not an ND fan. Sabino no longer considers UNC to be his top choice, and ND may now be his top choice. Sabino wants to be an early enrollee, and would prefer to leave Florida to go to college. If he does stay in Florida, apparently FSU, not Miami, is his top in-state school choice, or at least his parent's top choice. In any case, at least for now, ND is in serious contention for Sabino, with FSU & UNC providing the most competition. However, Sabino is not close to committing, and I would assume that USC will play into this somehow before it's over.

Sabino is hoping to make an unofficial visit to South Bend sometime this summer, but there are no definite plans.

IUB --

I see he's not rated (star rating) by Scout yet, which is surprising, seeing as Scout's rating seem to be the top 100 or so players in the country and Sabino is considered to be in this group. Any ideas why he hasn't received a rating yet? I know ESPN has him very high...

He is actually ranked #40 on the Scout 100 and #34 on the Espn 150 he is VERY highly rated and I hope he comes to ND. If we closed out our LB recruiting with Sabino and Filer, I would be VERY pleased :)

In addition, Sabino is a Rivals pre-eval 100, and I would be shocked if Rivals has him lower than #50 when they publish their initial rankings.

Agreed IUB. I believe Sabino is a top 5 LB

I would put A Brown well above everyone else at #1

The next tier I would put Sabino, Hale, and perhaps N Bradham and Filer

Rivals has finally joined the rest of the recruiting world and lowered Sabino's interest in UNC from High to Medium, the same as everyone else in contention for Sabino.

On another note, seniorle, in another one of the ESPN 150's seeming anomalies, the latest list has Bradham, who everyone else also seems to consider a Top 5 LB, ranked at #140. Even more curious, they have CT LB Jonathan Meyers with the exact same grade as Bradham, and ranked only 1 spot below him at #141. Meyers is a 3 star on Scout, and not even in the Rivals 250. I guess one of my CT homeboys from Bristol must have run down to Greenwich, and was so overwhelmed by the mansions and the money, that they were still too dizzy to properly evaluate Meyers. All one can do is shake one's head.

IUB, that was a hilarious post :p Yes, I did see that Bradham was #140 on Espn's list which I thought was crazy but some of their list just seems a little odd to me.

IUB, u should consider formulating your own top 100 list considering how much insight you provide

I will be doing that when I ressurect the Quality Index Rankings, which will probably be sometime in July. My list though, just as last year, will be based more on consensus than on my own opinion, although I do plan on throwing a few tweaks into the QIR system this year.

In My Opinion Only and in one word, NOPE. I'm not trying to be negative and I have no info to back it up, but I have never seen Sabino say that we were at the top of his list. That being said, it does appear that we are certainly in his Top 3 along with FSU & UNC, and the FSU guys continue to say it is between us & them. The Irish need to get Sabino on campus for us to have a real significant shot at this guy, and although there has been talk about him visiting this summer, I still have not seen anything solid that it will happen. FSU and Chuck Amato are really hot after Sabino, and one of the rumors was that FSU was his parents’ preference. I think ND has as good a chance as anybody with Sabino, and I still think one or two more schools will be serious contenders as well before Sabino decides. ND will have a better chance if he visits, but he is still going to be very tough to get, and I don't see a decision here until at least September.

IUB, i would have a really hard time seeing him at FSU considering the killer ass committs they have already at LB. If I remember correctly they have 3 LB committs that are just out of this world and just flat out silly. They easily, in my opinion, have the top LBing class right now.

I would say it is between NC and ND right now for Sabino

I think if ND were to land Sabino and Filer (both huge if's) we would have the #1 LB class bar none. That's potentially 4 guys in the top 50 (of Scout) and they should all be top 100 guys on just about every board. It'd be hard for anyone to compete w/ that.

And IUB, I look forward to seeing your concensus rankings again.

I hope you are right Marv, because I think Sabino is a much higher character recruit than you know who, and if it is between ND & UNC, I like our chances.
