Nice work on the quick new profile. :)

To summarize my original post. This kid plays in the same Catholic league as Sean Cwynar and I would guess also projects as a 3-4 DE. He's actually ranked higher by Scout on their Top 100 at 59th overall. I read on another team's board that he lists ND as one of his 6 favorites despite being the only school on his list which hasn't offered yet. They also stated that he apparently will receive an in-school visit from the Irish today so their is interest on both sides.

Give him an offerrr he's got talent and we needs another big body at DE. Plus he's friends with Cwynar.

Weis and Ianello will be visiting Garrett Goebel at school today, and many think an offer from Notre Dame would put them in the drivers seat for his services.

Garrett is also a state champion wrestler in high school.

I wonder about his academics. He has a 2.7 GPA, and we haven't heard yet about his ACT results. I know that there's a difference between a 2.7 after taking basket weaving, and a 2.7 with lots of honors classes, but still. Maybe thats what is holding up an offer for him.

I believe he ended up scoring a 22.

That's more than Tez Wilson and D'Angelo McCray got. And Ian Williams.

Montini Catholic is a private school and has college prep curriculum. He's not in woodshop every day.

Was the SCC Most Valuable Lineman last season over both Cwynar and Bryan Bulaga.

He is actually ranked #59 on Scout's top 100 list so he is pretty close to 5* according to them

Why was ND so late to get on him, or have they known about him for awhile?

He was at the March 4th Junior Day.

This is a very good player we're talking about here, but he is not a five star player. Maybe in Scout's version of the rankings, but that is a bit of a stretch.

Right now Iowa is my hunch as his favorite.

If ND offers, they're in real good shape. Real good.

After Cwynar and Filer, Goebel is pretty highly sought after. Some others here in Illinois would be, but those damn grades are shooing people away.

I'm a bit surprised he isn't paying more mind to tOSU. He has mentioned more than once he is preferring to leave state. Iowa and tOSU make sense to me there.

He won't wrestle, but Ohio State was going to let him do both before he decided on football only after HS. He's a state champion heavyweight here in Illinois and proably wouldn't make Iowa's squad for all I know. They're usually world beaters.

He has added a Michigan offer yesterday and Tennessee and Miami( Not sure about them if they offered today or previously), but this guy has some serious offers i think we should get on him with a offer before it's too late....who knows though maybe his grades are suspect.

I read an article saying the reason Notre Dame had not offered was because he hadn't gotten his ACT score back. It sound like he got it back with a score of 22 which is enough for an offer. I hope the Irish get this guy.

Goebel has been cleared academically to receive an offer and Ianello advised Goebel tonight that a written scholarship offer is on the way.

He and Graham Pocic have become pretty tight. They took an unofficial to Illinois and drove down there together.

Interesting. Both of their offer lists are pretty nice.

I think we should offer the "Big 3"(Meaning Lineman) in Illinois...Cwynar=got him.....Goebel=offer.....Pocic= needs an offer....they all talk to eachother.

Tim O'Halloran (Edgy Tim) released his Top 25 Illinois player list.

1. Filer
2. Goebel
3. Fleming
4. Cwynar
5. Pocic
6. Brandon Green

Offer and secure them all. Stick it to the Illini real good.

I was surprised to see Goebel second.

Brett Nagel was #10.

That would be great to get the best talent from your own back yard.

I think ND is telling him he will be a DE in the 3-4 defense.
