I know this is the first one of these, and it will surely change but ESPN as usual has some wacky ones. The first one to pop out is Andrew Sweat at #11, and the Top LB overall. Sweat is good, but the top LB prospect in the nation? For comparison, he is not in the pre-season Scout 100, or even in the pre-season Rivals 250. Also, I don't even see Filer on the list, but it's late and hard to read.

Wow, how many guys on this list are already committed to Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia and Oklahoma? Whatever they're selling, kids are buying.

29 of the 48 recruits listed on the Irish Envy Official Offer list also appear on the initial ESPN 150, including 5 of the Top 10, and 10 of the Top 20. IMO at least 13 of the 19 currently listed IE offers that are not on this list will eventually end up there.

The 2 most notable recruits missing from this list are Steve Filer and Kenny Tate. Both Filer and Tate are listed on both the Scout and Rivals 100 to Watch pre-season list, and except for ESPN both are always mentioned as Top 5 national prospects at their respective positions, Linebacker and Wide Receiver. Tate is frequently mentioned as the #1 pure WR recruit in the class of 2008. Not having Filer and Tate on this list is either an oversight or just plain stupidity.

The other 11 IE offers that are not on the ESPN 150 list but should end up there are:

Art Forst- Rivals 100 to Watch
Ethan Johnson- Rivals 100 to Watch
Dan McCarthy- Scout 100 to Watch
Poz- Rivals 100 to Watch
Ryan Williams- Rivals 100 to Watch
Darius Fleming- Rivals 250 to Watch
Cyrus Gray- Rivals 250 to Watch
Martavious Odoms- Rivals 250 to Watch
Jake Stoneburner- Rivals 250 to Watch
Hafis Williams- Rivals 250 to Watch
Brendan Beal- Not on any list yet, but should be

Just to clear up some of the mystery about Tate & Filer. ESPN have them both listed as having a Scout Grade of 45, which basically means that they have not evaluated them yet, and which also explains, but does not excuse, why they are not on this initial list. This list is prematurely published. They should not have put anything out yet when they do not even have evaluations for nationally known prospects such as Tate & Filer.

Ok- Last Post on this subject. Of the other 11 IE offers that I think will end up on this list, 8 of them (H. Williams, Johnson, Poz, R. Williams, Fleming, C. Gray, Odoms, & Stoneburner) have the same 45 Scout Grade as Filer & Tate meaning they have film, but have not been evaluated. Art Forst is not yet in the ESPN 150 database. Brendan Beal has a Scout Grade of 40 meaning they don't have film yet, or an evaluation, but they consider him to be a D1 recruit. On Dan McCarthy, they must have just completed their evaluation of him after this list was published, because he is listed as having a Scout Grade of 83, which would rank him somewhere between 22nd and 34th on the published list. McCarthy is going to be a big time recruit, ND needs to get him into the family quickly.

Bottom line is this list was published way too early, they have not completed evaluations on many of the top recruits in the country, so I am going to ignore it until at least June.

The last time I checked this list 29 of the 48, at that time, Irish Envy Official Offers were on the ESPN 150. Since then the Offer List has increased by 9 to 57, and the # of ND offers that are on the ESPN 150 also increased by 9 to 38, so the current tally is 38 out of 57. Newly evaluated ND offers that were recently added to the list are David Poz at #109, and Brendan Beal at #133.

The most glaring omission remains Steven Filer who they have evaluated with a grade of 77, which does not come close to making the 150 list. Guy who evaluated him must have been looking at the Irish Envy "Hot or Not" thread on his laptop instead of watching Filer's film. No way he does not belong in at least the Top 50 of any list. In fact, among ND offers who are on both the Rivals & Scout 100 to Watch Lists for 2008, only Filer & Kenny Tate do not appear on the ESPN 150. In Tate's case, the ESPN group has not yet evaluated him, which is pretty amazing in itself, as Tate will most likely be a Top 5 receiver on both Rivals & Scout. I wonder what they are waiting for.

thanks for posting the current ESPN rankings, I wanted to see how far they are dropping our current recruits like the recruiting services do with ND.

As more evaluations are completed, the ESPN 150 continues to evolve. The new list finally includes 3 significant ND offers for the first time. Ryan Williams @ #53, Carlton Thomas @ #55, and Kenny Tate at #66. Tate is no surprise as he is also on the Rivals 100 Pre-Eval list and currently #68 on the Scout 100. Williams is also on the Rivals 100 Pre-Eval. For Carlton Thomas it is his first, and I'm sure not last, appearance on one of these lists. Thomas is finally starting to get some notice for his Barry Sanders like running ability, which is not neccessarily good for ND, because it is sure to also give the Irish even more competition in recruiting the Florida phenom RB.

Two recognizable names that dropped off the most recent list are Brendan Beal & Trevor Robinson.

Currently, 41 of the 63 Irish Envy offers are also on the latest ESPN 150, and 5 of the 10 ND verbal offers are currently on the list, Cave, Crist, McDonald, Poz & Rudolph. A Rivals poster who claims to know someone at ESPN is still claiming that when ESPN is finished with all of their evaluations that 9 of the current 10 Irish verbal commits will be on this list, with only Golic Jr. excluded. Based on how this list has been formulated, that now seems very doubtful.

Fleming was on the list at #149 as of last week but I guess after the updates he was bumped off. He is on the verge of their list at the very least.
