If Claussen out play's everbody in the Blue vs Gold game, is it his job to lose? My opinion with G.Tech, Penn State, and Michigan the first 3 games . No way The Mad Scientist will put The Prodigy in that type of pressure.

Whats the difference, no one has any experience so your throwing any 1 of 4 guys to the wolves in those first 3 games. If he proves over the next few months(B&G game won't decide starter) then I don't see why you wouldn't start him.

this is a little bias since ive always wanted clausen to start, but he is our next big time qb(probably). I think he should just start from the beginning to pick up experience, and heck, if hes everything people say he is, he should definitly win the job fair and square. If its not going to be clausen its jones. I dont see sharpley having any chance and frazer has a decent chance.

My buddy is there as a high school football coach and said that JC looks to be the best QB of the bunch.

I still want to see what Jones can do. If you ask me, he just brings much more to the table. But of course, this is just me saying this having no clue how these guys have been doing in practice, etc.

According to my same buddy, he said DJ looks to be the least impressive so far.

really? I would just like to see a QB that can move when you consider who we've got at Wide Reciever. I mean solid guys but, no Samardzija's and Mcknight's thats for sure.

I mean it's tough. I mean you've got to think Claussen is the QB of the future right? So you've got to weigh whether you think its worth it to have him start from the beginning. Who knows, maybe he can have a Colt Mccoy like year, minus the getting hurt.

really, if mccoy didnt get hurt, they wouldve won the k state game and they could have been playing for the national title.

I like the approach Weis has been taking. Give each of them a chance, tell them what they need to do and empirically track who does the best. The best one will win.

I was pulling for Jones, but he just seems to be making too many mistakes from what I've seen/heard. My money is on Sharpley & Clausen being the top two heading into the summer.

Personally I don't believe the QB is going to be leaned on as much as the past two years to win us games. I think Weis see's this as more of a running team this year and will gameplan accordingly. He just needs someone who is smart, accurate, a team leader and won't LOSE us ball games. I think we could honestly see less then 20 passes a game from who ever the starter is. Honestly, I think if it comes down to Sharpley or Clausen then you play Clausen because that pretty much annoints him the starter next year in my opinion, why not get him experience. That would give most of these guys we have on offense this year 3-4 years together when their all seniors.

The Mad Scientist gonna has to play Ball control East Coast football. That's the way he was taught to coach and I see him going back to his roots.

He said that Hord had a good day and that was about it. He listened to CW and CB give their speeches and tried to watch some of the players practice.

It seems like several people have mentioned that D. Jones hasn't been doing that well in practices so far. Does anybody have details, or specific quotes?

I agree with that thought concept. More run oriented than the past couple of years. It's more inherent that the ND DEFENSE steps up this year!!!

Weis said that after he gets back in May he will review all the tapes to see who will be the top 2 QBs. He is treating the BG game as just another practice, so if one of them has an off day that day it might not break them. I have read somewhere that people were saying that Sharpley was looking good, which was a surprise to them. I will try to find the link, but it was one of the media guys.

Doesn't the team chart come out tomorrow or later this week?

I think Claussen is looking ok. I wonder, with Jones not setting the world on fire, what his future holds. If Claussen beats him out, he'll be a perennial backup for his entire tenure. WR anyone?????

Weis is careful not to slip in any hints about which two QBs will emerge from spring practice as the front-runners heading into fall camp. The only definite is that there will be no announcement after Saturday's Blue-Gold Game at Notre Dame Stadium.

Instead, Weis will jump on the road for a month to recruit, then mull over the options with his staff the last couple of weeks of May. Before the players come back for summer school on June 19, they and the rest of the college football world will know who are going to get the majority of reps, coaching, focus and, yes, harsh language in fall camp.

"I won't wait," Weis said.

PS. It's ClauSen (one 's').

I expect Charlie won't name a starter until just before the season starts...he will use every last second to decide as the fear of 1 or 2 qtrbks leaving for more fertile grounds weighs on his decision. One thing for sure, he will choose the qtrbk with the best chance of winning.

I dont even think he will announce. It will catch gtech by surprise because it could be clausen or DJ(in my opinion) and they are 2 completely types of QBs.

Not a chance. It would be bad sportsmanship, and it'd be impossible to keep it a secret anyway unless you never allowed the media to any practices and somehow managed to stop all possible leaks. Not a chance.

Oh, and it does seem like Sharpley's got a real shot based on the recent SB Trib article. Good for him. I for one really believe that it's still 100% wide open between the four of them.
