Pos:

Nice-sized, strong-armed pocket passer with a great amount of upside. Patient, calm under pressure and buys time for receivers. Gets outside the pocket to give himself a better view of the field, has a quick, over-the-top delivery and immediately gets the ball out of his hand. Zips the outs, Pos:sesses a good deep arm and drives passes into the tight spots. Flashes the ability to beautifully place throws where only his target can make the reception. Consistently challenges the vertical game. Puts touch on throws when necessary.

Neg:

At times stares the primary target down from the get-go. Not adverse to forcing the throw into coverage. Makes some head-scratching decisions at times. Not an elusive quarterback who escapes the rush. Marginally accurate throwing on the move and downfield. Leadership abilities are in question.

Above is the pos/neg section of BQ's scout profile for the draft. Anybody else thing these to paragraphs are contradictory to each other? How can you be praised for being able to "drive passes into tight spots" yet then be criticized for"not being adverse to forcing the throw into coverage"? mind boggling....

I think it means that they don't see him as a great QB prospect and are hedging their bets. I luv BQ, but I give him a 50/50 chance of success in the NFL. If he is going to do well, he will need a good OL and a better than average rusher to take some pressure off of him. Good luck dude!

Whoa, leadership abilities are in question? What exactly do they base that on? Maybe it was that rally at the end of the UCLA game that was Montana-esq, or maybe the '05 USC game where Brady led his offense up and down the field matching the media's boy Leinart drive for drive. This is what really frustrates me about all these supposed scouts and experts, they have their favorites then they play these little games where the disect other players in order to find things that usually not even there. After two years with Weis and both his on-field and off the field actions scream leader. I really can't wait till Quinn becomes the next elite QB, but then again, all the same guys who threw him under the bus will say that they knew he had it in him and were just waiting for him to develop, I hate the media.

I hear fans are saying he should go 1 or 2 at the QB position. I'm not sure that I would rate him that high. I'm not sure that is earth-shattering as you said, but I sure as hell ain't following the company line dude.

he goes 1 or 2 in the draft because he is clearly one of the top 2 QB's in the draft...and it just happens that 3 of the top 5 teams in the draft all need a QB. I just to get all the luke warm feelings about our own former QB. I don't think Brady has done anything but show he is capable of being a top tier QB, whether that happens will depend on luck and the team he goes to.

I guess I'm the only one who remembers all of our losses to the top teams. It's not all his fault, but we looked pretty anemic at times. I wish him well, and I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't see him lasting long in the NFL.

I guess you were watching different games and players then I was because i don't think Brady had much to do with any of the losses over the last few years...he's only one guy. Receivers have to get off the ball and get open, the Oline has to be able to pass protect, maybe help provide a running game, receivers need to catch passes when they are open and thrown too.

I could be dead wrong. I just don't have the best feeling. The only thing I know is that our defense will improve next year. It can only improve next year.

Yeah I do get the feeling that things will be better on that side of the ball this year, heaven forbid the defense win us some games this year. If you haven't seen the interviews from the players after yesterdays practices a few of the players have said that this defense is a lot easier to understand over the previous system, I think Minter had them thinking to much last year. Add the young guys being really hungry to play I think the defense looks real promising.

I get that impression too. I just hope we keep the offense off their heels. In the past, our D has been pure vanilla, and you don't win games or wars having the opponents know what you are gonna do.

So Stone, if not good play by Brady Quinn, what would you say was the biggest reason the Irish made it to two BCS bowls despite not quite having elite talent? I think we can scratch Defense, Running Game, and Dominant O-Line off the list, which leaves... BQ. And Weis. Somewhere between the two, we managed to win a bunch of games not many people would have predicted we could. Plus I believe Weis when he says BQ will be a good NFL QB. I can understand your feeling, especially with all the negative hype surrounding him, it almost feels like it would be better to have low expectations so they can't be dashed. But I fully 100% believe, if nothing else, he will be 4 times the NFL QB that Troy's Myth will ever be.

I know I opened myself up to this. It's just a feeling I have, how do u explain that? I hope he does great, perhaps it is Powlus and Mirer memories that cloud my judgment.

Go bengals!
