Dion Lecorn, Rae Sykes, Anthony Davis, Otis Mays and Ricky Booker. Take it for what it's worth.

If recruits can trim their lists, so should the schools.

Well, if a kid flat out has no interest or simply cannot make the grades, there is no point in keeping an offer with him. I think that was the case in every situation.

Say what you want, but this staff works tirelessly with the recruiting. I have 100% faith in whatever they do, whomever they offer, the whole 9 yards.

It could also be that the pay sites updated their lists because they were able to confirm that these guys never really had offers at all. It is easy for a kid to tell Steve Hare or Mike Frank over the phone, "Yeah, Notre Dame offered me." You just don't really know.

I think in light of Charlie Weis' recent travels it could be a combo of many things. I agree with Scooper's assessment above, too. Anthony Davis just wasn't interested in ND, so forget it. Part ways and wish him well. You take the first couple of "no" answers and then move on. Typical textbook sales tactic.

I have done a complete overhaul of the offer list.

A lot of previous reports have been unsubstantiated. Turns out some of the paysites are finding this out now.

I actually got into a big e-mail exchange with the Editor of The Chapel Hill News about this.

One of his stories recently said that Mike Paulus rejected an offer from ND to be the QB. I pointed out to him that all reports indicated that ND had no offer for him once we got Clausen. However, the writer was a free-lancer who cared more about the Tar Heels than he did about ND...so he was simply mis-informed.

The Editor went out, did some searching, and came back to me saying "Yeah, I am pretty sure you are right."

I thought that was pretty cool of him.

A couple of years ago, some kid wanted to up his stock. He started saying that he was a 3-star and that he had offers from many schools. He would post it on his personal website, etc. Well, the coaches can't publicly say anything...and finally this kid's H.S. coach said something to the effect of: Yeah, the kid made this stuff up. He's not better than a 1-star.

However, some of the recruiting sites were really talking him up... LOL

That editor also got 52 emails from Notre Dame folks who follow recruiting, so I think the research might have been forced into his lap. I was happy to give him an ear full as well.

ND did a good deed by letting them go early. Now those kids can freely look elsewhere and forgo an education, like USC, the OSU or SCUM. No worries about grades and playing time, just looking to make it to the NFL.

meh...no interest in ND doesn't translate to no interest in an education, nor does it make him a bad apple that doesn't have his priorities straight.

removing the offers (assuming they were actually offered) simply demonstrates a mutual lack of interest, as opposed to a situation where the Irish want them but they don't want the Irish. makes good sense.

This mentality isn't really appropriate.

If a kid wants an education, OSU/UM/UT/University of Miami are all schools where you can acquire a good, if not great, education if you apply yourself. It all depends on the character of the kid and none of us can judge these kids without knowing them.

Of course, this whole post assumes you don't know the character of these kids, for all I know, you have each of these kids on your speed dial.

dankus, the point you make is true. unfortunately, on a historical basis it applies more to the academic student body then it does to the football teams that you mentioned. Historically, recruits go to these schools (among other reasons) so they can coast into the NFL (or at least through college and still play football). Do your research, bud!

The mentality on the part of the players/recruits choosing those schools is what is REALLY offensive. See Myron Rolle who chose Florida State over ND and others because of academics. Does that not (by definition) make you intellectually inferior?!

Answer...yes it does!

I'm with bigirish and dankus. There are plenty of kids attending the football factories who have every interest in a good education. ND doesn't own the rights to providing a good education. You get out of it what you put into it, and to suggest thousands of athletes who don't go to ND don't want or get an education is the kind of arrogance that makes the rest of them hate us.

Be proud of ND's academic tradition. Be proud of the citizens ND produces. We take a back seat to nobody. But that doesn't mean the rest are what some of us claim they are.

Check Out the Offer Sticky

Check Out the Offer Sticky

Offer list has been updated, but the interest list has a lot more names on it.

If you see the name of a local kid and would like more info, drop me or Svoboda a PM on the kid.

A hot name right now after the New Jersey combine: Nick Sukay, WR/S.
