George West #2 Receiver?

4. George West is catching on.

In Weis' first season at Notre Dame (2005), he started two 6-foot-5 receivers in Maurice Stovall and Jeff Samardzija. If the 2007 season started today, it would be 5-10 David Grimes and 5-8 George West.

Grimes, ND's leading returning receiver, has been the spring exclamation point at a position with many intriguing question marks, but question marks, nonetheless. West, one of last year's three early enrollees, has now separated from the pack to be the No. 2 receiver.

A pretty good article, but I'm pretty sure Golden Tate is not in fact, a safety, but rather a wide receiver. I would hope that the other details are acturate though.

That should be interesting neither WR's are 6 ft. tall, i don't know if you can see that anywhere else, and they are wrong about Tate because Weis always refers to him as a WR.

I personally like tall WRs but as long as they can catch I could not care less about height

I think West and Grimes will play the most. I also think that WR is the least of our worries come fall.

If they can be like Steve Smith(from the panthers) we will be in great shape.

Kamara will get some good playing time by season's end. If any true Freshman aside from the EE guys gets playing time, it will be him.

West being the No.2 not only points to the fact that he is talented, but to the fact that a lot of the WR's on the roster haven't proved themself yet. I think Kamara will be able to do that. He's our next Stovall ;)

well, i hope he's our next Stovall earlier in his career rather than waiting until his senior year to really shine.

This shouldn't surprise anyone. In New England, Weis had Givens, Branch, and Brown as his main receivers. Givens was the tallest at 6'.

Don't forget about D.J. Hord. He was going to be #3 last year until he got hurt in the summer. Darrin Bragg's name has come up with running with the first team WRs in some of the practice reports as well. Last year Richard Jackson, Robby Parris and West were all seeing some playing time. If I had to guess what it will look like for the GT game, here is my guess.
1. Grimes
2. West
3. Hord
4/5. Parris
4/5. Jackson

I think Weis would like to use some true 5 WR sets this coming year.

maybe it was a low blow, although it wasn't intended to be. and it certainly wasn't aimed at stovall. stovall was one of my favorite players, even before his senior year. If Kamara can be like stovall was his senior year from early on in his career, that would be fantastic.

also, I wouldn't count Hord out. I think he can do some things this year.

I think once Kamara gets to summer camp he'll turn heads and earn a starting position.

I saw a good article in the SBT on how Parris is trying to fill Samardzija's shoes. Granted he's 2 inches shorter but if he can improve on his blocking he may separate himself from the pack & add some heighth to the stargin WR corps. I'll hope for the best if it's West & Grimes but I hope they ea. bring something different to the table b/c last year I though Samardzija & McKNight were too similar to be two entirely separate threats (i.e. two tall WR who can catch jump balls but can't outrun the secondary ala Matt Shelton or Joey Getherall).

I would be shocked to see more than 3 WRs on the field. That would mean sitting Carlson who is probably our best receiver. Also, don't forget that Ragone is taller, faster, bigger and more athletic than Parris or Jackson. Reuland is nearly as fast.

Mike Ragone: Ht: 6-5 Wt: 230 40: 4.45 4 stars
Konrad Reuland: Ht: 6-6 Wt: 240 40: 4.7 5 stars

Robby Parris: Ht: 6-4 Wt: 185 40: 4.5 3 stars
Richard Jackson: Ht: 6-2 Wt: 195 40: 4.6 3 stars
