when do the awards come out for the men in the big east? any predictions? I would guess Jackson and Harandgody will have a good shot at the all-freshmen team. does russell carter get 1st team? and what about collin falls? am I missing anybody else?

the women's awards were announced today. Junior Charel Allen was named to the 1st team, and 3 freshmen, Ashley Barlow, Erica Williamson, and Melissa Lechlitner were all named to the all-freshmen team.

The Big East men's all-conference teams are announced on Monday, March 5, including the All-Rookie team. Last year there were 11 guys on the First Team, so Carter is a lock. There are also almost 30 altogether on the first two teams and honorable mention, so Falls should be a lock as well to make one of the teams. Rob Kurz probably has an outside shot at Honorable Mention, but his conference scoring average of 2.7 points less per game than his overall average diminishes his chances.

The all-rookie team also had 11 last year, so I think it's a safe bet that both Harangody and Jackson make it, but there are a lot of great Big East freshman this year, especially at guard, so Jackson might have a tougher time making the team. It's tough for any freshman to make the all-conference teams. Dominick James from Marquette was the only one last year with Honorable Mention, and he was also Rookie of the Year. This year Scotty Reynolds of Villanova has the best shot of any of the freshman at Honorable Mention this year, and will most likely be named the Rookie of the Year. Villanova would have had a very difficult time making it back to the NCAA this year were it not for the efforts of Reynolds. To a certain extent the same can be said about Tory Jackson because of how well he had to play in the absence of Kyle McAlarney.

The top awards are not announced until the dinner on Tuesday night. That is when they announce player of the year, rookie of the year, and Coach of the Year, which Brey has to have a lock on.

I'm not sure what awards notredomer23 was talking about, but they were definitely not the official Big East Conference awards.

i saw that in the newark star ledger

look it up on the internet the website

Is this the article you are talking about, if so, those are Tom Luicci's predicitions only, not the actual teams, or awards. Oh & BTW if this is what you are talking about, Harangody is on Luicci's predicted Freshman team. Did you actually even read this article?

Big East awards have taken on a different look

BY TOM LUICCI

This is the kind of year it has been in the Big East: Six of the 11 players (10 plus the Player of the Year) named to the all-conference first-team during the preseason are borderline at best to get consideration when the coaches' postseason awards ballots are tabulated.

Wilson Chandler, Sammy Mejia, Juan Palacios, Dominic James, Lamont Hamilton and Terrence Roberts were tabbed first-team all-Big East by the coaches in the early fall.

There's a good chance none will make the 11-player first team announced Tuesday night.

Syracuse's Paul Harris, the preseason pick for Rookie of the Year, will make the 10-player all-rookie team -- but has no shot at the top freshman honors.

The coaches have their say when the league hands out all of its hardware on Tuesday in New York. Here's a non-coaches' view:
FIRST-TEAM ALL-BIG EAST (in alphabetical order): Jeff Adrien (Connecticut); Russell Carter (Notre Dame); Kentrell Gransberry (South Florida); Aaron Gray (Pittsburgh); Roy Hibbert (Georgetown); Herbert Hill (Providence); Jerel McNeal (Marquette); Demetrius Nichols (Syracuse); Curtis Sumpter (Villanova); Frank Young (West Virginia).

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jeff Green (Georgetown).

ALL-ROOKIE: Da'Sean Butler (West Virginia); Jerome Dyson (Connecticut); Luke Harangody (Notre Dame); Paul Harris (Syracuse); Eugene Harvey (Seton Hall); Scottie Reynolds (Villanova); Edgar Sosa (Louisville); DaJuan Summers (Georgetown); Hasheem Thabeet (Connecticut); Deonta Vaughn (Cincinnati);

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Scottie Reynolds (Villanova)

COACH OF THE YEAR: Mike Brey (Notre Dame)

Sounds good, ND23, we will find out on Monday & Tuesday, and maybe even Kurz will squeeze into Honorable Mention. In any case, the basketball team has already had a great year, and that will be reflected when all of these guys are honored, especially when you consider that at the beginning of the year, most of the experts had none of these guys on any of the teams, nor did anyone think that Brey would be the favorite for Big East coach of the year.
