Anyone see Rutgers battling us for the best NJ recruits now that hey had their dream season?

I know they picked up the #1 NJ prospect last year but i dont hink we offered him. Looks like we are going after several more in 08 of various positions.

I don't think there is any question about it. They have a young energetic coach who has helped that team turn a huge corner and has them headed in the right direction. They will be a factor in NJ recruiting.

I think they actually had a pretty disappointing recruiting season last year (ended up ranked in the mid-30s, I seem to recall), but if they can put together another good season or two I'm sure they'll pick that up. But it's not going to be like Mack Brown and Texas; CW will still be able to get a few top Jersey guys each year, I think.

Nd went 19-6 with alot of the guys being looked at by the NFL, so why wouldn't kids want to play for CW and CB.

"What recruits say about their schools."

"You had two interesting articles recently about two of New Jersey's best high school football players. The first concerned Matt Boyer from Governor Livingston High School. Boyer was a Star-Ledger all-stater recruited by many big time college football teams, including Rutgers. Boyer is headed to Princeton where he believes, he will get the best possible education. When he told recruiters from big-time schools, many questioned his comentment to football since, apparently, Boyer felt college is, first and foremost , about education.
Your second article concerned a much ballyhoooed Rutgers recruit Anthony Davis from Piscataway, NJ. Davis states that he hates to study and he hates school. As a Rutgers graduate , I can't tell you how proud I am to have a diploma from a school that accepts someone who actually boasts about this sort of thing."

It's not just Rutgers that you guys need to worry about. You let Trattou go after Urban Crier changed his mind. Also, PSU has always been successful in NJ.

But I do think Weis' roots will help Nd capture a portion of the NJ market, though they're not going to be as dominant as they have been in the past with the new Rutgers and PSU's reemergence.

Once Rutgers is 5-7 this season the recruits will relize what they did and go back to ND and psu only. Some USCucks might even be mixed in. Jarret came from NJ

lol guys, guys, i'm a ND fan just like the rest of you but lets lay off Rutgers. I mean, I root for Rutgers as long as their not playing ND. I went to a few games this season and you can only respect how Greg Schiano has turned that program around from being a bottom feeder and a disgrace to the NCAA to an elite team. Honestly, I think Rutgers would have given ND a run for their money this season. Their D was a big time defense and Ray Rice and Leonard are much better than Walker and Schwapp. Anyway, just thought I would stick up for Rutgers a little bit because they were being bashed for no reason

Rutgers is a good team and they finally seem to have a good program going. The five stars aren't jumping on yet, but they are getting good football players. They recruit very well in Florida and are starting to keep some of the top local guys.

Don't sleep on them. Discounting them because "they are Rutgers" is like ND haters saying we can never win again and citing the bowl loss streak. Essentially, the past doesn't always equal the future.

Id have to agree, im here in Jersey and i see what Schiano can do. He can develop players i think among the best in college football if not the best. He can take an unknown 2 or 3 star and turn him into a great talent. Unlike us they have a million D-line and Lb's that they shuffle through all game staying fresh and all contribute. Rutgers fans here in Jersey esp. on the internet have to be the most annoying people ever thinking they are better than any team ever and want whats coming to them. They bash ND worse than any team, and Jersey has more ND fans then any other college team including Rutgers

yeah you're right, they're not elite. they only shut down louisville in their game to comeback and took west virginia to 3OT in Morgantown. They finished ranked I THINK like near top 15. and dont say they only played like that cause Pat White was hurt because that QB was a damn good QB. and also can run like pat white

That's not elite. That's very good. That's not elite. ND wasn't elite last year either.

To the NJ locals

To the NJ locals

So what's the talk up there. Do folks think Shiano will go to Penn State if/when JoPa retires?

That was definitely the talk last fall, but has since all but stopped as Rutgers gave him a long term contract. He is currently the highest paid state employee in NJ and they have given him everything he has asked for. You never know what could happen in the future but he seems very committed to the program in every interview he does. I understand he has to do that, but to answer your question the Penn State talk has been muted for the short term. Joe Pa will outlive us all!

No it's not, and he never said it was. He won't be leaving i live in Jersey he's got the ball rolling and he won't stop until Rutgers is a perrenial (spelled it wrong im assuming f***spellcheck) power.

and i just noticed you are from Jersey too so you are familiar with the rumors, but not the facts. I also noticed you are a devils fan, tell me friend how do you sleep at night

It seems that Bradley's being groomed to take over at PSU. I doubt they're going to hire someone outside the program when JoPa retires.

Paterno will pick his successor, not the athletic department, and JoePa's guy is Bradley. So I agree with you that it's not going to be Schiano.

Oh, and don't buy the crap about Schiano being at Rutgers "long term" because of the contract. He saved face with Miami this year, but I've talked to a LOT of boosters down in Coral Gables, and Schiano came in and was ready to be Miami's next HC, but the school didn't meet his demands (which included lowering the academic standards).

Schiano walked away from that saying "I was never interested", but it's bunk -- he wanted to job, but got childish with his demands and Miami was the one who turned away and said "No thanks."
