A great story about Tony Fisher and his mom but a treatise on HomeState U. battles. Substitute Tennessee, Texas, Florida, USC, LSU, in place of Ohio State. It's S.O.P for the HomeState coaches like Fulmer, Brown, Zook, Miles, Carr, Carroll, etc.

You can't live in this state if you don't go here.

"NO Signing Conference"

“You will never succeed academically at Notre Dame!” (I've always felt that was the significant factor in Marc Tyler's decision)

It takes a dedicated and tactful recruiting coach (listen up Vaas) to deal with that situation.

It takes a special 18 year old to stand up under that pressure.

And a mom with a eye on the long term not the short term, "Tony does not need to follow in anyone's footsteps. He will make his own footsteps, and they will be at Notre Dame."

The quote that bothered me was from his coach "Bob it would be a dream for me to have a picture of Robert, Pepe and Tony on the fifty yard line in Ohio State Stadium."

Since when is the future of the young men he coaches about him?

I think the truly sad aspect about the negative recruitism, " You won't succeed academically at ND." is that if you have passsed admissions to warrant a schollie offer then you have the already have the intelligence to attend the university. I believe ND, like most schools will do as much as they possibly can to help you get a degree, and not by cheating but by putting you in a situation where you can succeed academically through tudors or any other resources available. That way a player no matter what happens on the field can go on to represent the University in a positive light. Get this ND wants these players to you know get an education for the right reason not just to help win football games.

Props to Fish & his mom for stayng the course & not giving into local pressure. Talk about a lack of class from his coach & school/media! More reason to hate The Ohio St. Luckeyes.

This goes on pretty much everywhere, what gets me are these hs coaches that do what they can to steer these kids to certain schools. This is the reason schools like Texas can have 11 commits not even a month after signing day. The good thing about ND recruiting is that it's national and if they can get atleast 2 top recruits from the states of FL, CA, TX and OH, they would have a top 5 recruiting class. There will always be kids that will not be herded to the state schools.
