In the QB debate, you hear a lot about how Jimmy Clausen is OMG THE BESTEST QUARTRBAK EVAR!!!!1! You hear a lot about Demetrious Jones and his legs. You hear a lot about how Evan Sharpley has the experience edge on everyone else. And almost invariably, when people pick who they want as the starter, it's one of those three.
I'm just curious: why does nobody talk about Zach Frazer?
Think about it: he was a very highly-touted QB recruit in his own right, considered to be about on-par with Jones. He doesn't have the mobility of Jones, but he supposedly has a better arm, which right away makes him a better fit in the sort of passing attack Charlie Weis likes to run.
He has less experience than Evan Sharpley, but the recruiting services gave Fraser more stars... for whatever that's worth. That could just mean that Frazer is over-rated, or that Sharpley is under-rated, but the star ratings are just right enough just often enough that they can't be ignored. So in terms of pure talent, Frazer seems to have the edge over Sharpley.
And while The Emu has 5 stars and a choir of attending angels that breaks out into song whenever he so much as looks at a football, there is one thing Zach has that The Emu doesn't: a season on the sidelines soaking in knowledge from Charlie Weis and Brady Quinn.
I've previously pulled for Sharpley just for the experience factor, but I'm starting to wonder if the best all-around choice might be Frazer.
