The Little’s (2 out of only 5)

It turns out that Chris and Greg Little’s defections were 2 out of only 5 such actions taken by Consensus Top 100 recruits on NSD. The other three were Antwane Greenlee from Georgia to FSU, Robert Elliott from Ole Miss to Mississippi State, and Jeremy Finch from Indiana to Florida. All of these three were also “soft verbals” prior to NSD, and all were anticipated to renege on their verbal commitments that day. Finch had announced his intention to sign his LOI with Florida on NSD eve.

In the cases of Chris and Greg Little, going into NSD they were both considered ND solid verbals. However, given Chris Little’s wishy washy recruiting saga, it is a pretty safe bet that the ND coaching staff would not have considered Chris to be a definite ND prospect until they had his LOI in hand. Rumors were flying about Chris Little on NSD eve, especially after it was reported that Greenlee was switching his allegiance from Georgia, so Chris’s departure on NSD was not a big shock.

Greg Little on the other hand was a surprise to everyone. (except for the omnipotent WBA) The reason for this was that Greg apparently willingly participated with the North Carolina coaching staff, and the Carolina Blue staff, in a conspiracy of silence to prevent the Irish coaching staff from learning his true intentions until NSD.

Greg went so far in this ruse as to reportedly telling a 4HL staffer on NSD eve that he was still ND all the way. Greg Little must be deserving of some award for his actions on NSD eve and day. I just can not think of anything appropriate right now.

Didn't Lorenzo Booker bail on ND for FSU awhile back? He just finished his very mediocre career at FSU. Unrelated but curious....

"Notre Dame, confident in his commitment, did not "step up" its recruiting efforts during the critical final months, the time when UNC was spending time communicating with Greg, meeting with Greg, and showing him how badly they wanted him."

Interesting the differences between Jimmy Clausen (& his Dad) and what is reported above:

Jimmy: Coach Weis, don't worry about coming here to show me your love; spend your time recruiting other players. I'M COMMITTED!!

'Other' situation: I want us to get more guys, but could you still come and reassure ME???

Greg Little isn't the only player who exhibits the above behavior, but for all of the knocks on JC surrounding the Hummer, etc he showed he is a TEAM guy by his comments to Weis.

Umm ... the Urban Meyer Award?

(Does that count as bashing a recruit?)

Just a side note, Kerry Neal from North Carolina committed to ND and NEVER wavered. I am pretty certain North Carolina would have contacted him also. KUDOS to Neal.

Maybe UNC is better for G. Little. That's fine, just don't be a monkey spank and bail out at the last second.

They did, and they were on him untill the very end. During one of the interviews that I saw him do on signing day he said that Butch Davis called him the day after he was hired and he wouldn't leave him alone even though Kerry kept telling him "No thanks, I'm committed to Notre Dame." One such occasion was the UNC v. Ohio State basketball game that G.Little attended, and I know that both Butch Davis and Urban asked JT and GL to not tell the ND coaches that they were even talking to other schools, and to keep telling ND everything was fine. G.Little did this all the way up untill the night before NSD. On Tuesday night he still told the ND coaches that they would have his fax in the morning although he had already silently commited to UNC about a month ago. Then as we all know the fax never came and the info leaked out that he was going to sign with UNC. G.Little had been a silent to ND since early May.

Why dont you give it a rest.

That WR, Little, was not forthright at any point in the process as reported in the Sun Times, Tribune and ESPN radio that I both read and heard myself. I know I dont have spreadsheets full of 17 year olds like you do but its old already.

The class was rated anywhere from 5-8 - or the best ND has had in a decade, which ironicly is how the whole thing started - me wondering why you recruit freaks were on the gallows with ropes in hand over all this stupid shit.

Your comments again only prove what I said, you are omnipotent, and at the same time you have no idea what you are talking about.

UNC isn't on the schedule again until 2008.

Yep, Duke is on the schedule instead next year. Although you should've heard the UNC fans at the end of NSD. Many of them are already looking forward to ND's game with them in '08, and most of those think they are at least going to goive ND a game, if not kill ND. LOL!
