One of my good friends/vendor whom currently resides in Ft.Lauderdale Florida turned me on to a bit of interesting news last night during a recruiting conversation over the phone.
Paul (his name) is a life-long Gator fan and follows recruiting as much as anybody I have ever seen. Everytime we talk, he mentions Urban Meyer and what an impressive class he is currently bringing in. I asked him about "Sam Young" and his impression left me very optimistic to say the least. He asked me to name one recruit from a long list of div.1 players from St Thomas Aquinas High-School since 96 that have signed with the Gators. Guess what ? There's none !
Apparently, George Smith (St.Thomas Aquinas Head Coach) isn't a very big Gator fan and apparently avoids all contact with their staff. Apparently, George took two years off after Aquinas won the state championship in 92 and returned in 95, the year we signed Bobby Brown. During his 2 year leave, Florida tried to develope an un-breakable pipeline that would lead St.Thomas Aquinas football players directly to Gainesville therefore making it difficult for high-school players to choose anywhere else but the Florida Gators. Apparently Ron Zook tried to break the barrier with little success as is Urban Meyer as we speak. Only time will tell if he can.
In the meantime, I found this link to St.Thomas Aquinas High School Football page and there is a breakdown to inform fans where their past football players have played and where they are currently enrolled. http://www.aquinasfootball.homestead.com/Pipeline.html
