Coach Weis on Rivals Radio

Yes, I agree 100% - look at my last post - I think a lot of these commits did visit everyone else and then verbal to ND didnt they? I think after Minter was fired it was fair game for D recruits to reopen and look. Thats fair isnt it?

And speaking of, the Minter firing, Im a huge ND fan and literally had to investigate the fact that Minter was fired. It literally took 2 weeks to confirm it all. That was a big mistake in my estimation. How is it so vague that he was fired right in the critical part of recruiting? Not fair to Minter recruits and not fair to Corwin Brown getting footing.

Well I'm guessing no announcement was made UNTIL Brown was hired on...which isn't a horrible idea...now if Brown was the guy and they were waiting that is dumb but I doubt that to be the case...

as far as recruits visiting everyone else then verbaling....then there is no need to visit anyone else....Weis isn't saying you can't visit other schools, he is saying you can't visit them AFTER you verbal if you do we won't consider you a committed recruit and will continue to actively recruit your position

It boils down to him saying....don't tell us you are committed until you are truely committed...if you want to visit more schools....cool.....but we arent going to consider you committed until you promise us you aren't visiting anymore schools or talking to anymore schools

I just thought of something for all those making "excuses" for Weis going after Smith and Walker (Iowa and Louisville committs)...

What excuse is there for recruiting Gary Gray after he committed to South Caronlia

Sorry but I don't buy the Weis didn't go after committed kids arguement

Some of these Monday Morning Quarterback opinions are getting tiresome.

Arguing back and forth over the same stupid issue: ethics in recruiting.

Meanwhile, the bar is raised so high toward attentiveness regarding stealing recruits, no one is paying attention to watchdogging coaches with NCAA recruiting infractions.

Iknow, people going back and forth with their opinions on a internet message board...the outrage

This year has been more cut throat than past years, each year it is getting more and more brutal.

Weis learning this, he is learning that he just can't rely on his NFL experience, his rings, the ND history and tradition, etc. Guess he doesn't know it all like some of the people on here that could do it better and land every recruit that they wanted.

If he only knew as much as those people we would land every elite prospect and never get played and be jerked around like Weis and company were by a few players this year. Hindsight is a lovely thing and its easier to throw stones after everything has happened.

For the record, GARY GRAY OPENED HIS RECRUITING BACK UP, WEIS DIDN'T STEAL HIM!!!!

Stonebreaker--maybe we'll follow each other a little bit! It was a joke--I shoulda put a smiley or something to indicate that better. Hopefully you read my response to your last reply on another thread. Hopefully we both can chill

It shouldn't matter if guys go after your commits anyway. As a recruit, you have a list of schools in front of you, you go visit them all, ask the questions you need to ask, get their sales pitch and make a decision. Once you commit to a team, by then, you should have already weighed all your options and made your decision so teams going after you and trying to sell you harder shouldn't make a difference unless you didn't do a good job of figuring things out yourself. If you haven't totally decided you want to go to one place, don't commit. It's simple. If it takes you til signing day to figure out what you want, so be it, but don't commit when you're not sure that's what you want. Look at Joe McKnight. Don't do what Barksdale did and commit 50 times to 40 different teams, that's a bunch of crap and doesn't speak well of your character.

What Smith did was commit to the team he wanted all along. If ND told him they wanted him but didn't offer because he was down the list, he should not have committed to Iowa and waited for ND but if ND told him they weren't interested in him and then came back and gave him an offer after CB got there then what he did was ok. What Greg Little did was different, he had a tough choice between UNC and ND, he thought and thought and after Butch Davis got hired as the new head coach, he decided it was best that he go to ND. Then sometime between then and now, he changes his mind. If he wasn't sure, he shouldn't have committed. I'd rather have a guy stay uncommitted than commit and decommit. As a coach, I want guys I can depend on. No one wants to look at the list of commits he has and worry about who actually is committed to coming to ND and who is just waffling.

Don't say you're committed when you're not really committed is what I'm saying. If you're in doubt, don't commit.

This is the only argument on this thread that means anything. Couldn't agree more. You don't have to answer the phone, e-mail, or texts if you don't want to. And, if you want to, well, you really aren't "committed" are you?
