Per Mike Farrell on Jan 13th (damn) ND will have their Junior day in which attendance will top 150 kids (double damn).

Farrell also stated that next year ND is his odds on favorite to win the mythical recruiting national championship. He pointed to the fact that while other programs are still working on this class ND is way beyond that point and already heavily recruiting sophomores and juniors. He closed by stating that ND is being listed by all the top kids in the junior class than they already has a couple of big time juniors who are silent committments.

He also expects Konrad Reuland to fall to ND today and stated that if ND lands Mr. Young they'll finish with a top 5 class this year.

One more note. According to Farrell Miami is going to try to get back in on Richard Jackson now that they've lost out on a couple of guys they were looking at. But he say's from everything he's hearing Jackson is firmly committed to ND and isn't interested in any new Miami advance.

That is all.

wow that must've been hard for Farrell to say, being a BC grad and all. I wonder what juniors are silents, I bet that offensive tackle from Wisconsin is one. He's been to ND's campus like four times already. I wonder if Simms is a silent, seeing how Charlie and Phil are so tight.

I watched Simms championship game on TV recently, and wasn't very impressed with him, of course he lost the championship game and threw an INT on the final drive of the game. Seems to blow up in big spots like his brother.

I doubt that it's Simms. I don't think he has an offer at this point. Claussen is the only QB with an offer, and I doubt he decides that early.

That tackle from Wisky is Oglesby and he'd be a great guess. Another one may be Ben Martin from Cincinnati LaSalle. Hopefully we'll find out soon enough.

There are a lot of QB's out there that ND is looking at. Clausen and Simms are two eggs in a pretty crowded basket.

Mike Paulus, brother of Duke's Greg, is also in the mix. Greg was right there with ND before choosing Duke for hoops only.

These coaches are speed freaks. Better than golfers I guess.

i read somewhere that Greg's dad contacted Weis after he was hired and send him film of Greg, whiched pissed off coach K. His Dad wanted him to go to ND and play both, but it was Greg's dream to play Duke basketball, and coach K wouldn't allow him to play football. Greg's Dad and coach K seemed to be at odds with one another

Paulus, Simms, and Clausen all come with alot of baggage

And that is exactly what I'm afraid of. If anyone can handle what could be a meddling father, it is probably Weis. I don't see him kissing anyone's ass any time soon.

I remember reading some Duke fans being pissed off that Tom Lemming supposedly tried tampering with Paulus to sway him to Notre Dame.

When Charlie Weis gets an American Express commercial, then the recruits will start flooding in even more.

Coach K is a rat. His team's are good, but he's still a rat.

The HS where my dad went in the Catholic League was the archrival to Coach K's HS Weber, which is now closed. They were there for the same four years.

He hated him then and still hates him now.

Personally, I like the guy. He goes out, gets the best players, graduates them and wins.

That actually sounds familiar.

You have to love all of the news about 07 recruits. It seems everyday we hear about a new one on either scout or rivals. I wonder who the junior commits are? I would guess Oglesby and Martin.

I don't know very much about Martin, but I would guess too, that Oglesby is one of the silent verbals... which is awesome because he is a highly touted recruit. Just look at the places that have offered him already.

Martin may be the top player in ohio, buckeye fans will have a fit if we land him. They still talk about losing Quinn. ND will own Cincinnati under Weis.

Buckeye fans should be worried about ND's resurgence, ND is probably the only school in the country that can go into that state and pluck away some of the top talent.

The Fiesta Bowl is a HUGE game for the buckeyes.

Jiggs, I am a Tarheel fan since birth. Oh by the way....sorry we had to beat down Illinois to win the championship. They did get us back this year, but we have the hardware. heehee Anyway, I'll never like Coach K, but I respect him because his teams are always well-coached. Last year, North Carolina was head and shoulders above Duke when it came to sheer talent and ability. On paper, it was a pure mismatch. Out on the court, it was a totally different story. Those guys play hard for 40 minutes and it takes a great effort and a high basketball IQ to beat them. That will be the staple of Notre Dame football: You'll have to play the whole 60 minutes to beat us and you'll have to play smart.

The Fiesta Bowl is a HUGE game for the buckeyes.

To be fair, Michigan is often able to pluck some gems out of Ohio. They even got a Heisman winner out of here. They have good ties at two major public school programs-Warren Harding and Colerain.

ND can take a strong foothold in the Catholic schools, though.

Many Buckeye fans are already conceding Martin to us, and they are surprisingly cordial about it as opposed to the usual "we didn't want him anyway" such as what they said at the time about Quinn. I think that's because there's no denying he'll be one of the biggest targets in the country. Locking him up early would be huge. He is the best recruit out of the Greater Catholic League since Moeller's Munoz when to Tennessee. Schoenoft out of St. X was a big one last year and the only reason he's not wearing a gold helmet is Ty's idiocy.

By all accounts, ND should be able to lock up the GCL in Cincinnati and there's no reason not to get a good hold on St. Ignatious and St. Edwards in Cleveland. If we can get them in our pocket, the sweatervest can have the rest.

Cincinnati is a strange town. OSU is big here, but not like the rest of the state. It really is fragmented by OSU, ND, UC and UK. And it's not a huge college football town, but HS football is big here and there is talent. If fortress Tressell has a weakness, it's Cincinnati. If Charlie can get in and build a wall, I'd be happy to volunteer for guard duty at the gates against the Scarlett and Grey horde.

Interestingly, I just read a post on an Ohio HS board where a poster from LaSalle said Martin doesn't talk about where he's going, but he wears ND gear a lot around school.

Beat down? Come on, Lifer. Great game. And if that were an NBA series, those two teams would surely had gone 7. I don't like UNC, but I'm not an Illini basketball fan either. I didn't care for UNC for one reason: Rasheed Wallace. Dean leaves shortly after that and my respect began to dwindle.

Duke is a tough out. When do they get blown out? See what they did to #2 Texas last weekend? THAT team was #2? Yuck.

I'll say this for Duke: they win and they graduate. And Notre Dame football is going to be like this. Don't expect blowout losses. Losses are going to occur LATE in games. Weis won't let too many teams run away with games, whether ND wins them or not.

You know you always have to exaggerate the outcome, Jiggs. LOL It was a good game and I was scared until Felton stole the pass from Head. Anyway, I am very exciting about ND football again. I haven't felt this way since maybe that '93 season. AARRRRGH!!! Does anybody still see the ball go through the uprights as if it were yesterday? I'm pretty sure I don't have to specify the game. It was the only loss of the season.

That memory has been erased from my mind and replaced with 4th and 9.

It happened right before my eyes just yards from where I was standing. Only Weis holding a Sears Trophy will erase it.

The memory from the BC game that kills me is Stonebreaker dropping a BC pass that was right in his hands, at the beginning of the winning drive. That is etched in my memory.

4th and 9 was painful, but not as painful as continously seeing Matt Leinart being pushed into the end zone after going absolutely nowhere the first couple of tries. You're right though......one stop, game over. didn't happen. I think I almost cried. My body was limp for like 2 hrs and all I could do was just stare at the floor.

I didn't get to see the game, but I saw the field goal. Of course, I figured ND would win going away. Guess I was wrong. That's what kills me about people saying ND gets preferential treatment. That was the only loss and it was by 3 points and they did not get to play for the championship. I believe FSU did though. Travesty. In recent years a couple of teams have taken bad losses (Oklahoma, Nebraska) and still got to play for the championship.

I was in the car for over 2 hours with my 56 year old father who was dead silent the whole way. Probably the most disappointed I've seen him in regards to anything sports related. The Sox giving the Angels a beating that night in the ALCS didn't even take the sting out of it. And the following Sunday sucked, especially when the priest giving the sermon at St. Paul the Apostle talked about that damn game after the Gospel.

The 60 seconds that I actually thought ND had won the game is something I can't describe in words.

Yeah, I think I almost went into Cardiac arrest when I thought they had won it. I was going to run around the neighborhood screaming my lungs off. Then it all came crashing down on me like a 10 ton truck. I haven't been that depressed over a football game in a long, long, long time. That's why I hope they're undefeated next year. Payback is a b*@#&!

We held my son's first birthday party that day. Earlier in the game, when Zibby took off on his punt return, I stood up and started screaming "GO TOMMY!! GO TOMMYY!!!..." This startled my son and he starting crying. I was careful not to get too loud the rest of the game, but as the seconds ticked off, I had to yell so I ran out the front door and screamed GO IRISH!!! down the street. My wife came to the door and told me I may want to get back in and watch this, it wasn't over.

My heart sank.

Oh, and my son hasn't cried during a football game since. He's learned the signal for touchdown. He claps when he sees football on TV and he hates the Buckeyes with a passion.

Actually it was Pete Bercich who dropped the pass (AND had the Unsportsman Like 15yr penalty called on him on the kick off...which few remember....) U BICH started their drive from about the 35 instead of the 20....

I was in the student's section at that game and can't get the PA announcer out of my head.....PASS FROM FOLEY...COMPLETE TO MITCHELL....TACKLE BY MAMULA.....39yr FG TRY by DAVID GORDON is good......
